Fans are roasting Tiger Woods' hair—Is this fair criticism or just plain disrespect?

It seems like the unhinged golf fans on Instagram have moved on from the news that Tiger Woods got another surgery. They are reminiscing about the time Woods proved himself to be iconic. The 2003 Presidents Cup was an unforgettable event, and we think everyone can agree on that. For the first time, it took place in South Africa, which was the home country of golf legend Gary Player. Player led the international team, and his passion was just utterly palpable.

Woods, the world’s No. 1 golfer at the time, stole the show and left everyone’s jaws dropped. The tournament was a thrilling ride, and the International Team fought back during the third round, but the US Team tied it up on Sunday. The result? A historic 17-17 tie. South Africa’s President Thabo Mbeki was present at the tournament, which only added to the event. But Woods’ match against Ernie Els was the real showstopper, and their sudden-death playoff left everyone breathless. But none of this was as epic as Woods’s hairstyle during the tournament.

Many players may prepare themselves with immense practices and diets, but Tiger Woods went for a very interesting hairstyle. The golfer’s hair was in a patch-like style where there were patches of blonde in between his dark hair, sort of like panda if you really think about it. Recently, Golf.com posted some pictures of Woods on their Instagram with this caption as the question, “Is there any player on Team USA that could rock this Presidents Cup look?”.

Netizens make fun of Tiger Woods’s 2003 hairstyle

We all know that golf fans are first in line when it comes to making fun of their favorite golfer. Whether it is lighthearted jokes or brutal bullying, the fans are always there. So here we are starting off strong with, “No hate, but Tiger didn’t even rock it,” and yeah, not commenting on that. But many believe that Woods was not looking, let’s just say, his best. Another fan said, “That’s not a ‘look’ anyone can rock.” Ouch.

But as we know, this is not the first time any golfer has gotten hate because of a haircut. Remember the time Cameron Smith got a mullet? Yes, the fans were not happy at all. Smith considers his mullet to be a good luck charm and would not get rid of it even if his wife Shanel Naoum asked him to. “I would have to apologize to my girlfriend, it’s not going away,” he said in 2021 when the couple was dating.

The same thing happened with Tiger Woods, and this fan compared his hair to grass that’s been burned. No, we are not making this up. The fan said, “Burnt grass?“. But wait, this one is even worse, “Bald patches?” said another fan. This reminds us of the time Ian Poulter was compared to strawberry sauce-covered ice cream because of his hairstyle. In 2003, Poulter arrived in Portmarnock to prepare for the Nissan Irish Open sporting a red and blonde hairstyle that very accurately resembled an ice cream covered in strawberry sauce. And in his defense, the golfer said, “The public might enjoy it. There are too many same old styles out there.”

So maybe that’s what might be going through Woods’s head when he opted for the hairstyle, but that was sure not what fans were thinking. “No one can rock that,” said one fan. What do you think? Can you rock the Woods hairstyle? Let us know in the comment section below!
