Is Max Homa's social media comeback the spark he needs to turn his PGA Tour season around?

Max Homa is back on social media after a break of over two months. He had last posted on June 15, after missing the cut at the 2024 US Open. According to his superstition, there was a correlation between posting regularly and his on-course results. So what is the correlation? Specifically, he believes that stopping his usual humorous posts on his X account is linked to a decline in his performance.

From the Travelers Championship at the end of June (T61) to the final major of the season at Royal Troon (T43), he has been placed only outside the top 40 in each of the following events.  Even at the St. Jude Championship last weekend, the scenario was pretty much the same. After carding a double bogey on the 11th hole, followed by two bogeys on the next two holes, Homa finished the final round with an even par.

As the tournament concluded, he was at the bottom of the leaderboard in Memphis. On Thursday, he was left tied for the 38th position with Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Aaron Rai at the BMW Championship. Home is currently at No. 43 on the FedEx Cup standings and needs to get into the top 30 to be eligible to play at the Tour Championship next weekend.

Hoping to be able to make it to the East Lake, he made a comeback on social media. Making fun of his superstition, and his performance, he wrote, “Hopped off Twitter a while back cuz I thought it might help my game. Boy was I wrong. Hoping tomorrow is the day it clicks. At the very least I’m finally going to grow an ass after walking Castle Pines this week”.

Weirdly enough, it was not just him who believed in such a superstition. His fans, who have been waiting for his comeback on both the course and online, have been speculating on the same. As he posted a few hours ago, they were all left in tatters.

The golf community hopes Max Homa’s trick could lead to his victory at Castle Pines

Is Max Homa's social media comeback the spark he needs to turn his PGA Tour season around?

Have an interesting take?

The golf community is exceptionally excited to have Max Homa’s humorous posts back online. This has also raised an expectation of his being able to make it to the Tour Championship the next weekend, based on the superstition. There’s some evidence to support this: the last time Homa posted a funny video, roasting his burrito roll, was on April 10th.

The Masters were scheduled to begin the very next day. His performance at the Augusta National has been his best finish this season. Although he has failed to land any victories, he bagged the T3 position with Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood. This was almost a win for him, given he has only had three top-10 finishes in 2024.

Taking to this, one of them wrote, “Max let’s be honest you haven’t been the same since you stopped sh*tposting. It’s a part of you and you can’t deny it any longer”. Another fan being realistic enough, motivated him to play better golf at the Castle Pines on Friday. However, referring to the magic his humorous posts have with his performances, one of them also commented, “Hey, walking Castle Pines might just be the swing coach you never wanted or knew you needed. hoping your game clicks tomorrow, if not… Tweet more”. While another, in sheer excitement, simply wrote, “SO back”.

Max Homa made the post after the opening round of the BMW Championship concluded on Thursday. He started and ended the round with bogies on the first and last holes, coincidentally. Furthermore, he carded two more bogeys in the entire round, leaving him with just two birdies. He finished with a 2-over 74.

Although his performance was disappointing, his fans were hopeful that it would strike back on Friday. Taking to this one of them, motivating him to do even better on the course, he wrote, “Just swing harder kid”.
