The 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational was not the best outing for Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian went 5-over par 149 to just miss the cut for the weekend by 1 stroke. Making par in the second round was not enough for Hovland to qualify for the last two rounds of the Signature events. But that has been the story for the 27-year-old recently.
After a winless 2024, Hovland has failed to impress in the PGA Tour in 2025. He hasn’t made it to the top 20 in either of the other three events he has participated in this season. Hovland finished at T36 at The Sentry and managed a T22 in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His performance at the Genesis Invitational matched his efforts at Bay Hill as he managed a +5 to miss the cut.
Golf Digest Journalist Christopher Powers brought up Viktor Hovland’s performance at the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2025. He was upset about the Norwegian golfer’s performance as he tweeted, “I’m sad about Hovland. Hoping it’s temporary. Needs to exile himself from TinkerTown, USA”. He believes that Hovland needs to step away from competition for a while to get back to his best form again. The fans couldn’t agree more with Powers’s statement.

Being a beloved golfer, Hovland drew a lot of comments from the fans regarding his bad run of form. And they had a variety of comments to share while generally agreeing with what the journalist had to say. Let’s see what the fans commented on his tweet.
Fans question Viktor Hovland’s form
A fan provided an overview of Viktor Hovland’s performance at the Signature event. They said, “Think this is the first time in a while I’ve been really encouraged. He putted so badly but his irons were great, and we learned he’s back with a familiar coach. If, as you say, he sticks to this one, hopefully by summer he’s close to 2023 again.” 2023 was a great year for Hovland, as he won 3 PGA Tour titles that season, including the Tour Championship.

Another fan inquired “Did they say he split from Mayo again?”. They are referring to the Norwegian’s coach, Joe Mayo, who has provided guidance to the PGA Tour pro throughout his career. The pair split up in 2024. The latest reports suggest that Hovland is since getting trained by Denny Lucas.
“He should Move to sea island”, said a fan as they advised the pro golfer to shift to Georgia. Sea Island has always been a great venue for young players to practice regularly on PGA Tour level courses and hone their skills. Perhaps living in such an atmosphere will help Hovland develop the winning mentality.
One of the fans did a detailed study on Hovland’s performance as they commented, “While I too am sad, I came out of this weekend more confident about the near term than I was before. 3rd best approach numbers and Top5 T2G. Dude was just lost on the greens (last SG putting). I’m bullish about the spring. Also just classic Hovland to miss the cut by one”. They also shared a picture of the graph that shows Hovland ranking third for strokes outside the green. Just goes to show that the Norwegian hasn’t been as bad as it seems on paper.

Another comment read, “So sad. Vik end of 2023: Beat the shit out of the US in the Ryder cup. Hits it inside 10 ft for about 12 straight holes to gun down Scottie. shooting 61 at the BMW. Won the TOUR ship the next week by 5. Why wouldn’t he try to play that exact swing, for the rest of his life…” Hovland has clearly dropped off a long way from what he was capable of in 2023. It’s about time he gets back to doing what he was a couple of years ago if he wants to start winning again.
