The DP World Tour Championship was a major hit as fans from all around tuned in to watch the event. Witnessing Rory McIlroy win the trophy and also get his 6th Race to Dubai title called for a celebration in the golf community. McIlroy was left in tears as he approached the stage to collect his trophies. Knowing that he equaled Spanish legend Seve Ballesteros’s record clearly meant a lot to him.
McIlroy’s reaction may have motivated other pros to participate in the DP World Tour as well. Reports state that many LIV Golf players have taken the necessary steps to ensure they are eligible for DP World Tour events from 2025.
And now, the players have been accepted back into the DP World Tour. A tweet on X has confirmed that many of the players who paid the fines or appealed against the DP World Tour have received confirmation of their inclusion in the circuit from 2025. Posted by @NUCLRGOLF, the list includes Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, Jon Rahm, Adrian Meronk, Dean Burmester, Joaquin Niemann, Thomas Pieters, Patrick Reed, and Lucas Herbert. All these players have had their DP World Tour membership reinstated and will partake in the DP World Tour of 2025. It comes as a surprise considering how some of them had shown dissatisfaction with the regulations set by the DP World Tour in order for them to become eligible again.

Sergio Garcia in particular had given up his membership back in May 2023. He had previously stated that he and the DP World Tour would need to find a middle ground for him to return to the European circuit. He couldn’t accept the fines that the DP World Tour imposed on him as he felt they were unfair. But with the Ryder Cup qualifications hanging in the balance, it seems that he along with all the other LIV Golf pros have succumbed to the pressure. As per reports on Bunkered, Garcia alone has paid the fine of $1.2 million to ensure that he can play the DP World Tour events.

“Tide is turning”
The news of the players getting reinstated has received a positive response from the fans. But it has come at a loss for the PGA Tour. @loveCOmtns said, “I enjoyed watching the DP world tour this weekend. High quality golfers. The PGA tour isn’t that compelling.”, he acknowledged that the PGA Tour event this week was a flop as compared to the exciting strokeplay in Dubai. @Joeyyyyyboy1 shared his dissatisfaction over the lack of actions from the PGA Tour as he said, “PGA still doing nothing is speaking volumes. Was nice seeing Hatton and Rory go at it this weekend. Much better than whatever the pga had going on. Byran bros was the only interesting viewpoint pga had this weekend.” @thewozz85 made a direct comparison between both the Tours as he said, “The DP World Tour has been way more entertaining than the PGA Tour for a lot of the last season tbf.”
That was not all the fans had to say. @ObiOneTwo3 suggested that the DP World Tour is better by saying, “Good news time to move on and get the European tour back as a major tour not a feeder.” @sjcmc75’s proposition may ring alarms in the PGA Tour headquarters as he said, “Now LIV should offer spots to DP golfers as well – this can be a 2 way street that would help both……” @NGPhDBio brought the PGA Tour commissioner into the mix as he said, “PGA tour and Monahan shenanigans will soon be over, thanks to the new sheriff in America!!!” @TUGRgolf simply said, “Tide is turning.” This possibly suggests that things will change in 2025.
