Having already participated in 10 versions of the Ryder Cup, Sergio Garcia is ranked third in a prestigious list of great players. He is just 1 tournament behind his fellow Team European players Nick Faldo and Lee Westwood. Phil Mickelson is at the top of the charts with a total of 12 appearances in the Ryder Cup.

It is worth noting that Phil Mickelson has backed out of participating in the Ryder Cup. During an interview for ESPN, he mentioned that he had taken this decision due to his own involvement in LIV Golf. He didn’t want to develop a hostile environment in the Team USA dressing room which can lead to distractions and loss.

Sergio Garcia gave an exclusive interview for Golf Monthly a few hours ago. Titled ‘8 Takeaways From Golf Monthly’s Exclusive Interview With Sergio Garcia’, the article discussed various aspects of Garcia’s career, including his past achievements and future plans.

In one of the sections of the article, they questioned Sergio Garcia about his intent to join the Ryder Cup in the future. Garcia was quoted saying, “I definitely hope so. I hope that things get better and I would love to.” indicating that he desires to be a part of the tournament again. Talking about what steps he has taken to ensure that, Garcia said, “I’ve had talks with the European Tour and I still want to support the European Tour, so hopefully we all come to an agreement and that can be restored.

Garcia went on to reason how his game is still good enough to book him a place in the tournament. He stated his intentions leading up to the 2025 Ryder Cup by saying he can “play at least two or three Ryder Cups.” He did add that it would only be possible “if I can keep that level going“.

As per Sergio Garcia’s statement, it’s clear that he wishes to beat his fellow LIV Golf player’s record. Since he is already 44, he will need to work really hard for at least 5 more years if he does wish to achieve ‘two or three’ more appearances. If he makes the cut for Team Europe on all three occasions, then he should be able to achieve his goal by 2029.

So with no further competition from Mickelson, do you think Sergio Garcia will be able to achieve his goal? Let us know in the comments section.
