To be able to make a big name in any sport, what’s very important apart from actual skill is branding. Well, NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) is doing the job for young athletes where it is no longer about age anymore. Even young prodigies are stepping in because of NIL and becoming part of the sponsorship deals. Recently, Tiger Woods’s son Charlie Woods has come under the limelight for the same. But the question is, has he already signed the deal?
Florida High School, where the 15-year-old golfer is a student and also plays golf for the school team, has allowed student-athletes to sign NIL deals. This will allow them to hire agents to boost their careers in their respective sports. This move is aimed at helping deserving athletes earn enough money to comfortably pursue their careers. And let’s not forget, Florida High School has some of the top players in the country. One such name that stands is Charlie Woods, and not just because of his game, but because of his father, the golfing legend Tiger Woods.
Benjamin School’s boys’ golf coach, Toby Harbeck, has been closely considering the potential impact of NIL on Florida High School’s student-athletes ever since the NIL rumors began circulating in the state last fall. Following the Florida High School Athletic Association’s approval of legislation on Tuesday, which allows athletes in all sports to profit from their name, image, and likeness, state champion Charlie Woods is now officially eligible to earn financial compensation for his golfing talents. “It is what it is. It’s going to be interesting,” Harbeck told The Palm Beach Post on Tuesday, June 4.

And well, why would Charlie Woods not? His rivals, who are also on the verge of getting the name that they deserve have started signing NIL deals. Not being a part of it will only make him a pariah among his peers, especially considering his status of being the son of the most well-known golfer in the world, Tiger Woods. However, the younger Woods could take a cue from his peer, who happens to be the son of the former WNBA star Rhonda Blades.

Blades Brown, the 16-year-old Tennessee golf sensation has locked in a multi-year NIL deal with Transcend Capital Advisors. “I am grateful to be a part of a team with such fantastic people and players,” Brown said in a media interaction. “Joining Team Transcend allows me to perform at my best and to pursue my dreams. Transcend’s empowering support and love for the game will propel me to excel in golf.”
The 17-year-old has already been giving exceptional performances in the past two seasons. He not only became the youngest co-medalist in the US Amateur history but also has a rather long list of tournament titles and records in his name. Additionally, big schools have been fighting to get him because of the name that he has earned for himself at such a young age.
Golf journalist Brentley Romine claimed that he could easily bag a six-figure NIL offer, which is rather rare. “Blades Brown is going to demand six figures per year, probably to get him to come to school somewhere,” he explained. While most college golfers make deals that only reach tens of thousands, his could easily make it to a whopping $100,000 or more. While we’re not sure what Charlie Woods’ next move will be with regard to NIL deals, he could take a cue from Blades Brown signing his NIL deal. However, Woods wouldn’t necessarily need to go down that road, given that money isn’t a problem being the son of a star golfer, and he has the best coaches and mentors in terms of pursuing the sport once he graduates.
