LIV Golf is set to kickstart its third full season! However, before they enter this season, the league will have several significant changes. The most notable one is the newly appointed CEO. The league announced on January 13, that Scott O’Neil, a seasoned executive in sports and entertainment, will take over the position. So, does that mean the White Shark will cut off his ties with the league? Well, the answer is NO!

He will remain involved with LIV in an as-yet-undisclosed capacity. The LIV Golf took to their official Instagram account and shared a post of Greg Norman, thanking him for everything that he has done for the league. They even shared the departing quote that the former CEO said, “I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished or more pleased with where the league stands today. I’m excited to pass the baton of day-to-day management and continue to help do what I can to grow LIV Golf. LONG LIV GOLF!”

Norman, who became the Saudi-backed league’s CEO ahead of its inaugural season in 2022, has been the driving force behind its rise. Under his leadership, LIV attracted some of the world’s top golfers, including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Phil Mickelson. Norman also helped expand golf to places like Australia, and it was a huge success.

For this year too, that is the agenda. To make golf global. For instance, the 2025 schedule will be spread across nine countries and four continents. And let’s not forget how the entire concept of golf as a team sport, and being played in 54 holes was once new to the entire community. But it was with Greg Norman’s strategic planning and advertisement that the fans have not adapted to the league.

The former CEO of Merlin Entertainments is also expected to play a role in the proposed merger between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the financial backers of LIV Golf. O’Neil has now taken up all of Greg Norman’s responsibilities. From continuing to pursue the top golfers to move to LIV, to managing to bag a lucrative TV deal.

Will LIV Golf finally have a TV deal?

What’s your perspective on:

Will Scott O’Neil's leadership take LIV Golf to new heights, or is Greg Norman irreplaceable?

Have an interesting take?

LIV Golf has been trying to grab an official TV deal ever since its inception, just like the one the PGA Tour has with Golf Channel. Finally, after three seasons, there is a ray of hope for them, and they might have grabbed what they have been desiring.

To begin with, the newly appointed CEO, Scott O’Neil was also seen playing in a pro-am of The Showdown with Fox Sports executives. Golfweek announced that there is a reported deal with Fox Sports, which is still in progress. High-level discussions are underway, marking a potential game-changer for the league as it approaches its fourth year.

Well, it is high time that the league gets its TV deal, and confirming it would be a huge milestone for the Saudi-backed league indeed. Do you think Norman will contribute as much as he did to LIV in his new role too?
