The defending champion is back at the AIG Women’s Open and ready to take what’s hers! After struggling from a grueling injury and returning to the LPGA Tour, Lilia Vu just started her opening round at the Old Course in St. Andrews. And what a spectacle her first hole was. Teeing up at the par-3 hole one in the home of golf, Vu reached the green in two strokes.
But on the third shot, her Titleist Pro V1x ball looked far away from the hole and a birdie looked improbable. The distance that stood between Lilia Vu and the hole did not threaten world no. 1. With precision, she took the shot, and the ball was IN! She just putted approximately a birdie putt of more than 40 feet as the crowd cheered and the commentators praised her away. But did it break the world record?
Unfortunately, no.

According to the Guinness World Record, Jack Nicklaus made the longest putt at the 1964 Tournament of Champions in Desert Inn and Nike Price at the 1992 PGA Championship, both holed 110-ft putts. So, Vu was far away from that record. And even taking the longest putt made on the LPGA Tour, Vu didn’t come close to it.
It was an eagle putt, holed by Paula Creamer at the playoff of the 2014 HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore to win the event, eventually.

After Paula Creamer, the next line to make a long putt on the LPGA Tour was one of the biggest golfers in women’s golf, Inbee Park. The Hall of Famer has made many remarkable putts in her career, usually a distance of 10-15 feet. But, Park broke her average record at the 2017 HSB Women’s Championship. The 21-time LPGA Tour winner carded a 40-foot birdie on the 6th hole. As said, she successfully won the 18th LPGA Tour title of her career.
Another long putt recorded on the LPGA Tour was when Park was defeated in a playoff against Swedish pro, Pernilla Lindberg. She made a 30-footer and claimed her maiden victory at the LPGA Tour and major at the ANA Inspiration. The golf community has been astounded by numerous instances of impressive long putts.
At the 2023 US Women’s Open, when Michelle Wie West announced it would be her last event, she also made her last longest putt. On the second day of the US Women’s Open, at the 36th hole, West drained a 31-foot par putt and bid adieu to her amazing career.
