Scottie Scheffler credits Ted Scott for his success—Is the caddie the real MVP here?

Castle Pines was last visited by the PGA Tour back in 2006 until now and for World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, the high terrain and hazard-laden course pose an interesting challenge in this edition of the BMW Championship. The 28-year-old had a rocky start on the Colorado greens, finishing T15 after the opening round. Adding to his woes, a bout of back stiffness raised concerns about a potential injury. But through these ups and downs, one person he can always find by his side is his looper, Ted Scott.

During the post-first round interview, the 2024 Masters Champion revealed the significance of having a trusted caddie like Scott “Yeah, I think having Teddy out there is extremely important for me in every round. Up here, especially with him doing most of the math and getting the adjustments and figuring out where to miss and where not to miss, ” said Scheffler Scheffler, echoing the oft-remembered line from Ben Hogan that golf is a game of misses.

Scheffler then divulged how the veteran looper’s experience comes in handy when assessing and evaluating a new course and iterated, Teddy does a really good job of helping me plot my way around the golf course” and added, “Yeah, a caddie around a golf course like this, especially seeing it for the first time, is really important.”

Scott has been around the golf town for quite some time and has found success as a caddie for many other star players, like Bubba Watson. And when it comes to his time as Scheffler’s bagman, the duo has yielded massive results, including this year’s win at the Masters, which greatly contributes to his way towards becoming the highest-earning caddie in 2024.

Despite being number one in the standings, Scottie Scheffler had a lukewarm start to the FedEx Cup playoffs with a T4 finish at the St. Jude Championship, where he finished fourth. However, it is clear that the PGA Tour pro is gearing up to reclaim the top spot in Castle Pines this weekend. And his caddie Ted Scott is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to his caddie duties, which were captured in a recent practice session where the strong caddie-golfer relationship between Scheffler and Scott was once again on full display.

In a recent video posted by Taylor Made, Scheffler was asked what his relationship with Scott was like, to which he jokingly replied, “Difficult.” He then went on to say, “I think we have fun and keep things loose. I think the season can be long at times and so its nice to have relaxing days through the days before we get to work.” This easygoing dynamic prompted Ted Scott to describe the relationship as a “pro-mance”.
