The last major championship of the year, the AIG Women’s Open, is currently going on at the Walton Heath Old Course and the ladies of golf are fighting hard to earn the prestigious title and the additional perks offered to the winner. The situation is dire as the competition is proving an extremely tough challenge with even top players suffering. But present on the course is golf legend and the tournament’s 2003 winner, Annika Sorenstam with her encouraging words to raise the struggling spirits of the players.
Annika Sorenstam is excited for the ladies at the British Open
While the players are sweating it out at the Women’s British Open, LPGA legend Sorenstam, is present on the course to motivate them as she herself won the event in 2003 and became only the sixth player to complete the LPGA Career Grand Slam.

Among the many perks that winning the tournament will offer the player like the trophy and the money, the winner will also be awarded with ANNIKA Major Award awards points, and Sorenstam is providing encouragement to the women to achieve this goal.
And while she is there, Sorenstam indulges herself in a little different challenge on the ground. With her latest tweet, Annika has shared her participation in the Mastercard Mega Putt challenge on the ground which is set up for fun purposes.

As can be seen in the video Annika plays a short round of mini-golf with the interviewer and is excited about it.
Later the interviewer asked the 10 times major winner if she had ever played at Walton Heath before and Annika replied “I am here just for fun, nothing like this. I am so excited that the ladies are here. I think it’s a fabulous venue for them. And hopefully, the weather and the sun will keep the way it is.”
Sorenstam is retired now, but her incredible achievements are an inspiration to young golfers and praising them with her award is a way of acknowledging it.

ANNIKA Major Award points and other perks for Women’s Open winner
The winner of the Women’s Open will be given the Rolex ANNIKA Major Award points which was established in 2014 and given to the person with the most outstanding Major Championship record at the current tour season. Players are only eligible for this award if they finish in the top 10 and ties at all five Major Championships who pick up points. Apart from this, they will also get 650 points for the Race to the CME Globe competition along with an open exemption for the AIG Women’s Open until they are 60 years old.
With so much at stake, it is evident that the players will fight tooth and nail to achieve these glories. Currently leading at the vent is Ally Ewing and following her on second and third are Lilia Vu and Charley Hull on second at third position.
