It is no secret that golf is a tough game. The scores differ from other sports, the courses differ from place to place, and golfers have to adjust their strategy based on what they find from one hole to another. Still, in order to win, players take a laid-back competitive approach, which is a thing only in golf.

The links courses, in particular, can be very daunting. However, with time and experience, even rookie players are able to conquer the tough courses with their fortitude. One such up-and-comer has a unique insight into the greens of the Dundonald Links where the Women’s Scottish Open is coming to its conclusion.

Patty Tavatanakit started her game on Thursday on the Links with an even par but made the cut in the next round with 4-under. Once in the game, she made steady progress on moving day and scored 6-under, putting her in the lead with 10-under par, only second to Amundi Evian Champion, Celine Boutier.

Going into round 4, Tavatanakit has a huge advantage, but that is only because she is learning on the course. When asked during the Freed Group Women’s Scottish Open presser about her play, she said that she is learning every day and is enjoying her time. She also added that playing the links requires a bit of luck along with talent and that has favored her so far.

The dame of Thailand also talked about her game having improved since she turned pro but she is still taking it one shot at a time. “Regardless of how I feel prior to this event, the result kind of — it is what it is. I could be feeling amazing, and the result is not there. Or I could feel “meh” and score around the course. So it just doesn’t really matter. What matters is you just go out there and play golf,” she explained.

Her steady strategy has helped so far. She still has a good chance of clinching the title in Scotland. Golf fans are excited to see if she will prevent the French LPGA pro from claiming back-to-back titles this season.

Tavatanakit also shared her insights on the Par 5s

Earlier this season, at Pebble Beach, there was a long debate on Par 5s slowing the pace of the game. However, Patty Tavatanik lent her unique perspective on that as well. For the 23-year-old golfer, they are opportunities rather than hindrances.

When speaking at the presser, she also talked about how her hole-by-hole approach allowed her to take advantage of the par 5s and get a lead on her peers. She doesn’t particularly think they are her all-time advantage zones but does believe that at this particular event, the par 5s have been good for her.
