A Double-edged sword. That’s how most people describe social media – a platform that can both uplift and undermine, often at the same time. For golfers, social media has become a key part of their online presence, offering a way to share their passion, connect with others, and build their personal brand. Despite this, many new creators are thriving on social media, including Grant Hovrat and Paige Spiranac, who are making golf more accessible and fun. Even established golfers like Phil Mickelson leverage social media to connect with fans. However, one golfer who has undeniably benefited the most from social media is Bryson DeChambeau, who has masterfully used platforms to showcase his unique personality and lure fans in.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Essentially Sports’s Andrew Litman, John Catlin shared a secret conversation he had with Bryson DeChambeau that has been gaining attention on social media. Catlin revealed that he had a conversation with DeChambeau about potentially collaborating on a project, with DeChambeau showcasing the science of golf. “I told Bryson I was like, ‘You know, the two of us have broken 60, maybe we should try and break 50 together,'” Catlin said, highlighting the exciting possibilities of their combined expertise.

Catlin also reflected on the impact of social media on golf, stating, “It’ll be interesting to see, you know, when we look back 10-20 years down the road, how much it has influenced it. You know, you think of Tiger from, you know, ’95 to 2005, and all the people that he inspired. That was kind of my time, and I think about all the players that I’ve grown up with and played with, and a lot of them like got inspired from Tiger. And, I think that’s you ask people 20 years down the road, where’s some of their inspiration come from, and I think a lot of it’s going to come from social media, YouTube golf, uh, you know, it’ll be some of it will be the same it’ll be the TV, you know, watching the guys on TV, but I think the social media adds a new aspect that’s really cool.”

Catlin expressed his enthusiasm for the idea, stating that collaborating with DeChambeau would be a great opportunity, having been fortunate enough to spend time with him on the LIV Golf tour last year. “I think it’s… anytime you get to be around somebody like that, I’ve been fortunate enough to be around Bryson last year on LIV Golf and UK, you know, I think it’s… it would be an honor for sure,” Catlin said, showcasing his admiration for DeChambeau’s skills and approach to the game. But this appreciation and admiration from others only comes because DeChambeau himself is very proud of what he has done with social media in golf.
