What if Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda teamed up to chase Olympic gold? That’s the kind of dream matchup fans could see at the 2028 Los Angeles Games if golf’s mixed-team event gets the green light. Antony Scanlon, Executive Director of IGF Golf, says the push for this format is making serious progress, with the IOC taking a serious look at their proposal submitted last year.

“There’s great enthusiasm among our players for this,” Scanlon said, pointing out how popular mixed-team formats have become in global sports.

The event would feature a 36-hole mixed-team competition, inspired by the popular Grant Thornton Invitational. Players would compete in alternate-shot (foursomes) and best-ball (four-ball) rounds, adding a fresh dynamic to the Olympic golf program. If it gets the green light, golf fans could see some exciting pairings, like Scheffler and Korda representing Team USA. Can you imagine?

In terms of logistics, the men’s event would run Wednesday through Saturday, followed by the mixed competition on Sunday and Monday, and the women’s event wrapping up the week. The best part? No extra athletes are needed; countries would simply select their mixed teams from the already-qualified golfers.

Fans are already buzzing about the possibilities. Scheffler and Korda, two of the most dominant players in the game, teaming up for the ultimate gold medal chase? That could change the whole vibe of Olympic golf.
