Who knew Rory McIlroy would be the topic of talk about his perspective? The 35-year-old professional has recently won the AT&T Pebble Beach and was praised for his performance, but as we move ahead in the schedule, his statements before the Genesis Invitational have raised concern for the golf experts as they talk about it extensively.

The golfer has been a critic of LIV Golf since its emergence. However, now as Donald Trump has involved himself in pacing up the process, McIlroy has also started to look into the unification perspective of the event. During the interview, the Irishman focused on pointing out how everyone has benefited and everyone has to “just got to get over it.” He even said, “If people are butt hurt or have their feelings hurt because guys went or whatever, like who cares?”

The statement did start out a huge rally of discussions across. Earlier Johnson Wagner at the Golf Central Preview Show expressed his take on the statements. Ex-PGA pro said, “He’s trying to get his way in every way. I’m a huge fan of Rory, but he’s angering me right now.” Wagner was concerned about his take from just his perspective without consideration of others.

Even with the latest podcast of Golf Channel, Wagner has shared an elaboration of his thoughts yet again. To begin with, he said, “I think he’s seen this from the best player in the game view.” While continuing to talk about how looking that way is wrong, Wagner continued speaking that this is a much bigger thing to consider, also sponsors are getting hurt with his statements.

Pointing out McIlroy’s statement that everyone benefited in terms of money after LIV emerged. However, for Wagner, it was something that was not necessary as he shared that, “nobody loves who’s a fan of an athlete loves hearing about how much they make.” Hearing such improvement for a golfer is “a turnoff” according to Wagner.

The league’s been hustling to boost those prize purses, and it’s all about locking down big sponsors. Even he suggested for the Irishman saying, “I just wish he would look at it from someone’s perspective other than himself.” Further in the end, Wagner continued to point out his choice of words with his statement having “get over it” and “butt hurt,” which, according to him, is “insensitive.”

The statement was the hot topic in hand, and that’s when a new incident from McIlroy’s side took place at the course, which left fans furious with his choice of words.

Rory McIlroy’s temperament hindered at the Genesis Invitational

McIlroy was picking up pace at the course, coming close to the lead in the first two rounds, while on the outside, his statements were being discussed thoroughly. However, after the third day at Torrey Pines, the close margin of victory seemed to get bigger with a close birdie putt miss. The same feat continued to test his temperament on the final day.

In addition to the frustration building, a fan suggesting he change his caddie triggered the golfer, which led to repercussions. Sharing the details about the incident, Dan Rapaport shared a post on X writing, “Rory misses a putt on 3. Random fam: “BLAME YOUR CADDIE.” Rory responds immediately. “shut the f*** up.” He’s got zero time for any Harry Diamond slander.” The golfer has been associated with his childhood best friend, Harry Diamond professionally, as his caddie since 2017. The duo has been on a great victory run, even the recent one at Pebble Beach. The suggestion from the fan wasn’t taken well by the golfer, which led to him cursing the fan during the match.

The incident after being shared on X started a spree against the golfer, where fans addressed his temperament and how it would affect his upcoming majors. For McIlroy, Major’s win has been nothing less than a drought as he won the last in 2014.

Even the match did not have the result everyone was expecting from the 35-year-old after the first two rounds. Now, with two incidents lately, the golfer has entered the bad books for many.
