Steve Williams had caddied for Tiger Woods for more than a decade. During his time with the golf legend, Williams had the opportunity to meet other sports entities who are the best in their sports. And one of them who made a huge impression on the New Zealander caddy is the Tennis star player Roger Federer.

“What struck me more about Roger Federer than any other person in his position was just how laid back he was,” Williams said. He shared how the Tennis icon has a unique personality in his podcast, ‘Chasing Majors,’ with Evin Priest.
Tiger’s caddy explained that he had met with a lot of celebrity players over the time he had caddied for the golf legend. Yet, he thought Roger Federer was different from all of them. “He was just so laid back,” Williams added. “It was hard to actually to fathom how laid back this bloke was.”
Federer is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He has won 20 Grand Slam titles and 103 ATP titles. Furthermore, he also holds the record of being the world no. 1 for most consecutive weeks (237) in the history of ATP since 1973.

Being the bests of the modern era, Tiger and Federer were friends with each other. And Steve Williams was one of the few to witness how their interactions used to be.
How did Tiger Woods and Roger Federer begin their friendship?
“Obviously, that friendship was formed through the association with Nike.” Williams indicated that the GOATs of tennis and golf had met through their sponsor brand.

However, according to Williams, their friendship strengthened in 2006 when Federer was playing the Miami Open, then held at the Key Biscane stadium, and Tiger the Doral Open.
“Comparing notes on practice, dedication, philosophies, mental strength, and that sort of things were really, really really interesting.” Williams still cherishes how he got to experience two of the bests in their respective sports discussing their game strategies at Tiger’s private yacht.
Although they used to be good friends, Federer has revealed that he is no longer in touch with the golfer. “When he faced problems,” Federer explained how his relationship with Tiger had strained. “He disappeared and changed his number.”

Although they are not friends anymore, the two legendary players have shared a lot of memories with each other. And as a caddy of Tiger, Steve Williams had the opportunity to be an onlooker of those conversations.
