The LIV Golf Series moves to its concluding event in Miami this weekend. While its inaugural season has been mired with controversies, the league has been able to make a stomping presence among international golf circuits. Not many laid eyes on the rebel league during its inception, but by the time LIV golfers tee up at the ‘Blue Monster’, a number of traditionalists will be sweating over the future of the sport itself. For one final time this season, here’s a complete breakdown of LIV Golf’s $50 million purse finale.

Teamwork takes center stage at the Doral
In a break from regular LIV events, the climax at Miami will see an enormous award for victorious teams, rather than individual golfers. The total purse has also seen a steep increase – the regular $25 million purse offered at every LIV event has been hiked to an eye-watering $50 million.

In an almost improbable sense, Sunday’s prize distribution will mean the Saudi-backed series has shed a total of $225 million in prize money, plus another $30 million in bonuses. On the breakdown of the total purse in Miami, $16 million will be awarded to the winning team, followed by $10 million for the runners-up.
Following the LIV tradition of everyone receiving a piece of the pie, the remaining amount is shared among other teams. That means the lowest-ranked team will also have something to play for, which is reportedly worth a million dollars.
What’s at stake at the season finale in Miami?
The conclusion of the LIV season indicates a number of mouth-watering prizes for top golfers and teams across the year. For starters, the Miami event will be least bothered by the 2016 U.S. Open champion Dustin Johnson, at least from an individual standpoint. The 2-time Major Championship winner has already claimed the individual award for securing the most points throughout the season, while winning the LIV Boston event along the way.
He pockets a handsome $18 million as prize money for his exploits, but there is more in store for Johnson. The 4 Aces captain has a chance to clinch the season team awards with a decent finish in Miami. Johnson’s team has secured victory in four of the five LIV events this season and stand at 152 points on the points table.
The event will be played at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami. It is one of former POTUS Donald Trump’s 17 iconic golf courses, which is also popularly known as the ‘Blue Monster’.
The name is derived from its origins – American real estate developer Alfred Kaskel built the course in the middle of a swamp, which caused people to call it the ‘blue’ course initially. However, the difficulty of the course remains paramount, with its swirling winds, water hazards, and tough play compelling golfers to give it the present-day calling of a Blue Monster.
