Rose Zhang is one name in golf that is hitting the limelight pretty often these days. She made a stellar debut in her professional career and emerged victorious in Mizuho Americas Open in New Jersey, winning $412,500. A former PGA Tour pro has even called her a “needle mover” of golf. Zhang has an extremely decorated amateur career, and now it seems, she is on her path to having an even more decorated professional career.

Rose Zhang’s early life 

She was born on 24th May 2003 in Arcadia, California. She started golfing at the young age of 9 when she came across the clubs her dad’s friend got for him. She found the clubs to be fascinating and decided to give them a shot. On her third try, she was able to hit the ball and that’s when her dad enrolled her in golf lessons. She currently resides in Irvine, California.

Who are there in the young golfer’s family?

Hailing from America, she has a small family. There are three members, her father, mother, and her elder brother. Her father’s name is Haibin Zhang and her mother goes by the name Li Cai. Her brother, Bill Sida Zhang is 10 years older than her and was born in 1993. 

Rose Zhang’s parents immigrated to the United States 

Both her parents, Haibin Zhang and Li Cai were born and raised in China. The two got married there and welcomed their first child. Eight years later after Bill was born, in 2001, the family decided to immigrate to America for a better life. After moving to the States, the family decided to live in Arcadia, California. 

Then in 2008, after leaving Arcadia, the family decided to move to Irvine, where they still live. 

How was Zhang’s parents’ initial journey after moving to the United States? 

The Stanford star’s brother spoke with The Athletic and shared about their first few years in the new country. He said it was a humble new beginning. Their immigration experience was different than what people go through these days. 

The educational background of Haibin Zhang

During his school years in China, he went to Pujiang Middle School and then he went to the University of Science and Technology of China in 1994. Afterwards, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 1999. 

After immigrating to the US, he attended Yale University and attained his doctorate in physics in 2004. 

The timeline of the golfer’s father’s professional life

According to his LinkedIn profile, in 2004, Mr. Zhang joined Brookhaven National Laboratory as a postdoc and was in that position for 2 years. In 2006, he started working at Bloomberg as a professional software developer and was there for just 11 months. In 2007, he made his way to Lehman Brothers as an associate, and then he switched to Barclays Capital in 2008  as Assistant Vice President. 

In 2010, he left Barclays and started working at PIMCO as VP Asset Analyst. He was then promoted to Senior Vice President of Quantitative Research Analyst in 2014 and has been at PIMCO ever since.

Rose Zhang’s old man also works as her part-time caddie and is a member of her professional team. 

What does Rose Zhang’s mother do? 

The golfer’s mother, Li Cai, is a dental technician. 

The timeline of the golfer’s brother’s professional life

Bill Sida earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from California State University. Besides a marketing degree, he also attained Real Estate Broker and insurance consultant license. His first gig in the real estate field was in 2018 when he worked as Land Development Manager at McSen Realty Corporation. 

Zhang’s brother has also worked as a business consultant at Aurelia & B Corp for over five years. Other than this, he has also spent a year at Network Capital which was then followed by a year-and-a-half role as a Senior Loan Consultant at New American Funding. Recently in 2023, Bill Zhang joined Trusted Mortgage Capital as a Mortgage Banker.

Rose Zhang’s coach once described her father’s pivotal role in her game  

George Pinnell, who is one of Zhang’s coaches said that her father has played a very significant role in shaping her as a golfer. He said that his father never interrupted his game, but had an impact on her mental strength. As mentioned on Netline, her coach said, “You should understand, a lot of her early development was done by her father. Not from a swing standpoint. He was never involved in our lessons. He left us alone. Where he really was significant was in her mental state of the game. How she works, how she thinks. That’s her father.”

The 2023 Mizuho Americas Open winner shares a cordial relationship with her family and loves them very very much. She is very protective of her parents and is close with her brother as well.
