The golfing scene currently has quite many A-listers who compete against each other to prove themselves. This makes the events more competitive in nature, thus featuring some masterclass performances from a plethora of golfers. But even still, some names continuously resonate with tournament titles, and there are tremendous expectations from them.

Rory McIlroy is one such golfer who with his impressive performance has made a mark in the golfing scene. But interestingly, according to reports, Rory has earned much lesser revenue compared to a PGA Tour Pro who has not even won a title this year.

Talking about A-Listers, Rory McIlroy is a well-celebrated figure. He has been in quite good form in 2023 and has been competing in the top stages of the PGA tour with great composure. His prowess moreover has paved the path towards a major win this year. McIlroy won the Dubai Desert Classic that was held this January. He currently has one title to his name this tour season, but interestingly his earned prize money is way lower than his colleague who has not won a single event this year.

Tyrrell Hatton has been struggling a bit to reach the silverware this season. The 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational winner has been participating in quite many events this season, though the final stages eluded him. But still, he has managed to garner $6,695,427 in prize earnings this season, which is quite hefty compared to Rory McIlroy’s $5,939,508.

Participation in more events was the key to the massive prize gap

Rory McIlroy is currently ranked at #3 in the Official World Golf Ranking list. But still, his earnings this season in prize money is $755,919 shorter than Hatton. The cause of this disparity may as well be in regard to participation. That is, even though Rory is at the #2 position at OWGR and has a PGA Tour win this season, he has competed in much lesser events compared to Hatton.

Tyrrell Hatton, who currently holds the #16 position has attended 52 events this season, compared to Rory’s 45 events. This is what provided Hatton with the prize money boom that we can see. It seems that participation has worked wonders for the 31-year-old whereas, Rory McIlroy has held on to the prestigious glory of winning a title in 2023.
