Remember the 2024 Solheim Cup? European golfer Maja Stark went head-to-head with Lauren Coughlin of the United States, putting up a tough fight that ended in a hard-earned half-point. But here’s the twist: Stark was once a rival on the U.S. team. Confused? Let’s break it down.
Stark is undoubtedly a golf star today, but her journey to becoming one started during college. She was a three-time winner in just two years at Oklahoma State University as per Golf Monthly. She even led the Cowgirls to the NCAA Championship final match and was named a first-team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. Impressive, right? But wait, there’s more. She was also recognized as the Big 12 Golfer of the Year in 202-21.
So does this all affect her studies? Well, to everyone’s surprise, the athlete even excelled in studies by scoring a perfect 4.0 GPA in pre-psychology. She wrapped up her sophomore season ranked No. 4 nationally by GolfStat with a 49-2 record in head-to-head competition against top-100 players in the country. It’s fair to say that, she wasn’t just competing, she was dominating.

Fast forward to the present, once a part of Team America, she is now competing against them. But does her diverse cross-culture experience in sports question her patriotism?
Maja Stark’s contribution to the European Team
Though she began her journey as an American golfer during her collegiate years, Maja Stark has undoubtedly emerged as a proud ambassador for European golf, and her victories speak for themselves. While her wins during her sophomore season are indeed admirable, it was during her time on the Ladies European Tour (LET) that truly established her name in the elite golf community. Since turning professional in 2021, Stark cliched six tournament titles.
Among these victories, the 2022 ISPS Handa World Invitational stands out—not just for the title but for its significance as a co-sanctioned event between the LPGA and LET, which eventually earned her LPGA Tour status.
