The first session came out to be a tremendous shock to the European Solheim Cup team as the American squad absolutely destroyed them in all four foursome matches. And at the center of it all was Nelly Korda who, with her partner on course, soared past her European counterparts, registering a point for the US team.
Captain Stacy Lewis’ plans came out triumphant as she paired the golfer up with one of her squadmates instead of her best friend on the team, in what was initially nothing short of an intriguing decision. But the 1X major champ, after emerging victorious in her match, was all praise for her American peer as she dubbed her a “clutch” player!

The Korda-Allisen Corpuz pair came out all guns blazing in the first session of the foursomes in the biennial event. A total of three birdies combined with two bogeys from their opponents, Leona Maguire and Anna Nordqvist, took them to an easy victory over the European pair.
In an interview post the match, the younger Korda sibling praised her foursome companion and said, “My partner made some really clutch putts,” all the while expressing her admiration for the 2023 US Women’s Open champ. Moreover, she also mentioned how everyone from the US team who played together on the course had good chemistry.
What’s more, adding to the praise for her on-course teammate, the 8X LPGA Tour winner did not forget to express her approval of her captain’s decision to pair them together. The 2021 Women’s PGA Championship winner pointed out how well the duo was paired while showing her appreciation for Corpuz.
The decision to pair up Korda and the 25-year-old American golfer, by the skipper, was initially deemed a controversial one by many golf fans. Nevertheless, it turned out to be the right decision as the American team decimated their rivals in the first session.
