Elin Nordegren’s ‘I’m No Longer Married’ Remark Signifies How She Broke Social Norms After Failed Marriage With Tiger Woods

Often times, the struggles that people face don’t look so huge after they come out of it, and they come out the other side shining. The ex-wife of Tiger Woods, Elin Nordegren, was no exception. The couple parted ways in 2010 after the alleged scandal of the golfer was highlighted in the news in 2009. Even though Elin walked with $100 million as a divorce settlement, her life was tough. She was still studying, pursuing a full-time psychology degree course. And her kids, Charlie and Sam, were too small to understand the situation.

But later, she moved on, and with consistency, she created a life for herself. She proved her worth as a single mother of two kids. The former nanny established her career as a licensed psychologist. Breaking society’s norms, she proved that if a woman wants, she can do anything. After four years of separating from her ex-husband, she re-lived the ordeals of her life and explained her journey.

The former couple has come a long way since their separation as they have matured. Elin lives just 25 minutes away from Woods‘ residence so that Charlie and Sam can spend time with their father. Woods and Elin share custody of their kids, which led the former couple to forge the friendship. Despite everything, she did not want her kids to suffer without their father. However, she was free from the betrayal and used to talk about it openly.

According to The Huffington Post, Nordegren was healed; therefore, she could joke about her broken marriage in front of her peers. When she came to America, she was unaware of anything and was lost. But today, she is a mother of two and has an accomplished life. She said, “When I entered my student adviser office in the fall of 2005, I was 25 years old and had just recently moved to America. I was married without children.” Nordegren added, “Today, nine years later, I’m a proud American, and I have two beautiful children … but I’m no longer married.” 

Dealing with a massive betrayal and then follow-up questions and the massive public scrutiny on her broken marriage in the media must have been hard on the former model. However, Nordegren has emerged out strong mentally, and is more potent than before. She is a powerful woman who deserves to be praised for handling the issue gracefully.
