During his appearance on the Stick to Football Podcast, McIlroy reflected upon how golf is more accessible in his own country Ireland than in other countries or even the US.“I feel like golf is much more accessible in this country than it is even in the United States or other parts of Europe or other parts of the world. So we still have a long way to go to increase the accessibility of it.”

McIlroy does feel that some mentality has changed from the time he started playing. He added, “I think people are starting to understand that okay, you know, golf isn’t going to be a dying sport if we don’t introduce young people to it and bring the next generation up with us.” Like him, many other golfers have also requested the involvement of young children in the sport to help it grow as well.

Despite his rival team, LIV’s ultimate motto of growing the game, he fails to see the knowledge about it in the upcoming generation. He strongly feels that the young generation needs to be introduced to the sport to enhance it and he could feel it with changing times.

McIlroy feels easy introduction to golf is the key to generating interest

Comparing the game to football, the podcast is themed after he said that golf is not as easy or accessible to play as football is. All the other sports need is a ball and it can be played anywhere. But golf needs more effort to get into it. The Irishman believes that new instruments like top golf are a less intimidating introduction to the game. It allows a young amateur to get a taste of the sports, which further motivates them to maybe take a lesson from a local pro and then go to a golf club and get started in the sport in that manner.
