Full Swing is back on Netflix with a new season! With PGA Tour pros like Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick returning to the docuseries alongside some new faces, including Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, and more. However, it’s not only golfers who shared their stories; the WAGs of the pros also took the stage and made some revelations.

The world of golf saw a huge shake-up when LIV Golf entered the scene back in 2021. Many big names on the PGA Tour circuit chose to jump ships, which included the likes of Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka, and more. Dustin Johnson also made it to the defected golfers’ list and his wife shared the difficulties post-switching to the Saudi-backed league in the second season of the Netflix series.

Paulina Gretzky speaks about the LIV Golf aftermath

Even though the move to the breakaway league was very beneficial for DJ’s bank balance, it also came with a set of challenges. One of the biggest challenges was the criticism and hatred. Paulina Gretzky opened up about the aftermath of Johnson’s move and the death threats that the family was subjected to and said, “People are sending death threats and awful, awful, awful things.” “People were aggressive, that’s for sure.” Gretzky further spoke about how she dealt with all the negativity and stated, “But that’s when I shut it down for a little bit. I was like, I don’t need to look at this. Everyone has an opinion on it. Fine.” 

Gretzky highlighted the positive impact of DJ’s decision to choose LIV Golf and how the couple now has more time in their hands and more control over their own schedule. She further spoke about why she thought the change was the correct thing for them and how, in the past, due to DJ’s career commitments, she had to take the back seat. She stated, “The old life we had, it was ‘I had to take a back seat’ but now it feels like we’re in the front of the plane together flying. It was the right move.””

The initial days after the move were surely difficult for the Johnson household, but it looks like the couple is reaping the sweet benefits of their decision. The most recent being the title of individual champion at 2024 LIV Golf Las Vegas. Paulina Gretzky once again shared another challenge that comes with being the wife of a well-known golfer.

Why is the public environment overwhelming for Gretzky?

During a recent sit-down interview with “The Scoop,” Gretzky was asked about the biggest challenge that she faces due to DJ’s fame and lifestyle. The 35-year-old candidly spoke about the difficulty they face in public settings and stated, ” biggest challenge which sounds kind of probably small to most but like public environments are just overwhelming for me.”

She further revealed about having social anxiety and iterated, “my social anxiety is insane” Thus, social settings become much more overwhelming and constant media attention also adds to the model’s worries, which make simple things like going out for dinner a much more tedious task for her. However, in the end, Gretzky went on to add that even though it is “a challenge but it’s easy to get through.”
