The American professional had to withdraw from the 2017 Masters due to an accident at his rental home. Johnson came to Augusta National Golf Club for a practice round a few days prior to the main event. However, the course was closed for the day after 1:00 PM due to a storm.

The former World Number One had to return to his rental accommodation, where the accident occurred just 48 hours prior to his opening round.

Johnson fell from the staircase of his accommodation. As a result, he landed with great force on his lower back and injured himself. Although he was given anti-inflammatory medication and started the icing process immediately, a nerve was involved in his fall from the stairs.

Moreover, he turned up hoping he could play and came to the practice grounds one hour before his tee time. But he withdrew from the 2017 Masters without even hitting a single shot. As a result, he became the fourth World Number One to miss a major championship.

Two years post his freakish accident, his wife Paulina revealed the reason behind DJ’s disappointing withdrawal from the major championship event. She told about the same after replying to a fan’s question on her Instagram story.

Gretzky wrote, “Like he [Dustin] said, slipping on the stairs. Tried to race outside to get our son from the car because it was storming out. But I’ve definitely enjoyed all the entertaining lies… I mean ‘rumours.'”

Paulina’s words ended all the speculations about why DJ had fallen from the stairs. At the same time, it also shows the funny side of Johnson’s better half.
