Earlier this month, 23-year-old Nelly Korda created history by bringing home an Olympic Gold. Korda, and Xander Schauffele, were two Americans who won gold for their country. Korda’s game was appreciated worldwide, with everyone in awe of her performance while she remained a favorite to win the Olympic Gold. However, Dustin Johnson is unaware of Korda’s heroics in Tokyo.
Dustin Johnson does not seem to know who Nelly Korda is. While talking to the media during the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, Johnson was asked if he knows Korda at all, his response a little unexpected. “I do not,” Johnson explained and added that he did not watch Korda win gold for Team USA at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

While Nelly Korda has impressed the world, Johnson skipped the Tokyo Olympics.
Why did Dustin Johnson skip the Olympics?
Before the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational commenced, Johnson, explained why he did not represent his own country at the Olympics this year. “I mean obviously I support the Olympics and I’m really glad golf’s in it,” Johnson mentioned. “Don’t really regret not going, but obviously it’s something that I would enjoy and I’m proud to represent my country this year”.
Adding on to that, the 37-year-old stated that he thought an Olympic competition would not benefit his game. However, he might end up playing in Paris. “With everything going on it was just something that I wasn’t too keen on. But obviously, I watched a little bit of it and I am always proud and want to represent my country in events like that. But just this year wasn’t something that I thought was like I said, beneficial for me”.
While the golf schedule does remain packed, Johnson might have considered the Olympics if the competition was not in the middle of a big stretch for him. Not only would it affect the performance, but it could also be tiring and exhaustive for an athlete.

Nelly Korda was beyond elated following her Olympic gold
“I feel like it just motivated me more. I was like, I can’t play like this today, I can’t go out like this, and I always want to fight, and I’m gonna fight,” Korda said in her post-game interview. She admitted that she was stressed, but still did not lose a lead. “It’s crazy. It sounds absurd that I have a gold medal. And I’m an Olympian”.
