The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters recently got over, and the results are out. The last of the regular season events took its toll on the DP World Tour players. Some players had high stakes such as retaining their tour card for the upcoming year. 

One of those players, a Scottish gentleman, opened up about his mindset prior to the tournament. He claimed he didn’t have anything to lose, and the way he spoke about the event was quite emotional. Unless he played well in the event, he was sure to lose his DPWT card for 2024. So, how did it go for him?

The Race to Dubai ranking is crucial for DP World Tour players. The golfers’ position in the standings at the end of the regular season determines their chances of playing the tour again the next year. 

Scott Jamieson stood at the 119th position on the table before the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. He had to move up by at least three positions in order to avoid losing his card. 

Thankfully, Jamieson put more than a sufficient amount of effort into the game and finished with a shared 3rd position in the tournament. It helped him jump up to the 82nd position at the table, comfortably keeping him playing for the tour in 2024. 

In a recent podcast, the 40-year-old claimed that he played the same game he has for the past few months this week as well. He admitted that he probably drove better. Jamieson came out a determined mindset that set the tone for him in the tournament.

The Scottish golfer expressed the extreme thoughts that occupied his mind while preparing for the nerve-wracking challenge.

Speaking of his mindset going into the tournament, Jamieson confessed that he was preparing himself for the worst. He said his mind started wondering what would happen in case he lost his card this year.

He had even tweeted about his emotional state ahead of the tournament. Jamieson had written that he had nothing to lose and that he had to go get it. Well, spoiler alert: he did get it.

The Scotland native was trying to accept he might have to play the Challenge Tour for a year. He apparently contemplated whether the change in his earnings would let him afford his current house.

Although he claims to have had the worst expectations for the week, he did exceptionally well in the course. The way he played his first round ensured that the event would end in his favor.

Perhaps it was his fear that motivated him and kept him focused. Whatever it was, we are glad things worked out for the talented golfer.
