The 2022 Fortinet Australian PGA Championship at the Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane on November 24, Thursday. Notably, the tournament is being played as a DP World Tour event for the first time in three years as part of the strategic alliance with the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia. As a result, the event’s purse and the prize money are increased considerably from last year. 

The total purse of the 72-hole tournament is 2 million AUD. Notably, the event sponsors offered 1 million AUD last year’s purse when it was part of the PGA Tour of Australasia. However, by making an alliance with the European Tour, the purse of five events, including the Australian PGA Championship, got increased.

A total of 156 men golfers played in the first two rounds of the event, out of which only 65 plus ties will make it to the final rounds. Nonetheless, only the players who play on all four days and finish their game will get to win a part of the total purse. 

Top players playing on the DP World Tour event with 2 million AUD purse money

Even though the PGA Tour has banned the LIV Golf players from attending its events, the others haven’t taken such a decision. Therefore, players like the 150th Open Championship winner and Australian-born Cameron Smith are part of the Royal Queensland field.

Furthermore, Jediah Morgan, the defending champion, was also competing at the event to reclaim his title. However, after scoring 70 and 74 in the first two rounds, the 2021-2022 champion couldn’t make the cut. Adam Scott, Marc Leishman, Jason Scrivener, and many more advanced to the final rounds too. 

The winner’s benefits and the purse distribution for the 2022 Fortinet Australian PGA Championship

The 2 million AUD is the entire purse money of the Australian PGA Championship. And the golfer who claims the title will get a big share of the total purse, $340,000. Notably, last year, the champion’s share was 180,000 AUD. Other than the prize money, the winner will also get the Kirkwood Cup. Furthermore, he will get 760 points from the 4000 points allotted to the entire field.
