The Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational is currently going on at the Midland Country Club, Michigan. It is a new tournament started in 2019 by the LPGA; an annual tournament that includes a week-long series of events. 

Over four days of the weekend the players will engage in alternating rounds of foursomes (alternate shot) and four-ball (best ball) competition. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 35 teams and any ties for 35th. In the event of a tie after 72 holes, the champions will be determined by a hole-by-hole playoff using the foursome format.

A total of 120 players are vying at the event with two additional invite teams as well. Top players like Lexi Thompson and Brooke Henderson are headlining the event. The two-star players are put together on the field for the first time. Achieving fame in golf from an early age, Lexi has 11 wins on the LPGA Tour as of now. And her partner, Henderson has also been doing great this season. After a good finish at the US Women’s Open, she would definitely take advantage of her strong partner to shine at the event.

Other names like Hannah Green, Aditi Ashok, Pajaree Anannarukarn, Alison Lee, and Georgia Hall are also playing. Another strong contender on the field is China’s Ruoning Yin. Just at 20, Yin has won at two LPGA Tour Events this year already. First is DIO Implant LA Open and second is KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Currently sitting on World no. 5, she will offer a tough competition to others.

Also vying for the prize is Jane Park who indulged in a noble cause on the field inspired by her daughter, to support foundations that treat brain damage. The 2019 Defending Champions, Cydney Clanton & Jasmine Suwannapura, will also be seen playing at the event. The final round that will be held on Sunday will get live TV coverage on Golf Channel.

Total purse and the winner’s cut at the event

Since its inauguration, the prize purse for DOW has increased each year. In 2022 the purse was $2.5 million, with the first-place team splitting $607,620. For 2023, the purse has been revised to $2.7 million. First-place will get the standard 15 percent winner’s payout, with second-place money, and averaging the two together.
