Jena Sims feels blessed to be a mom. The bond with her five-month-old is only getting stronger, the model entrepreneur said with a broad smile. But she has not forgotten what she went through to get here. In a Q&A session, one of her fans asked if she had a birth trauma. The short answer, ‘yes’, would be quite obvious, but Sims revealed it’s more “layered” than that.
In the first part, it is well known that Crew was not in good shape. But Sims said there was more to it. In fact, baby Koepka’s life was hanging by a thread; so was Jena Sims’s. The 34-year-old opened up about what transpired that evening and its aftereffects.
Leaving the hospital without the baby is the worst, per Sims

Sims’s water broke in the evening while chatting with Koepka in the kitchen. husband. Sims was six and a half weeks early and, naturally, was caught off guard. The doctors at first informed them that they could still wait 48 hours. However, Crew’s “heart rate dropped” and they had to rush: “It was an emergency C-section.” Sims delivered the baby within four hours of the water breaking.
The trouble started right after. Since Crew was premature and had health issues, they had to put him in the NICU immediately. In fact, Sims revealed she got a “Golden 18 seconds” of skin-to-skin touch with the newborn. The NICU team was already present in the room and told Sims that they had to take him “right then and there.”
Moreover, Koepka had to FaceTime her from the NICU because she was still in hospital bed recovering from her c-section. Moreover, for the two weeks that Crew Koepka was in the hospital, Jena Sims was allowed to hold him only for an hour per day. The one last thing is “leaving the baby hospital without your baby.” Sims wrote on her Instagram story, “I don’t wish that on anyone.”

Further posting a picture of a sleeping Crew, Sims noted that they got their baby healthy thanks to the NICU team. “That blessing is not lost on us,” wrote the 35-year-old on her Instagram story. Indeed, it is evident from her Thanksgiving gifts to the entire NICU team.

Sims’s heartwarming gesture toward the NICU team
Sims turned to her followers for gift ideas for the NICU nurses. Keeping true to her words, the Jupiter native visited the hospital with a cartload of gifts to the hospital. Wearing a T-shirt with Crew etched on it, Sims, her sister Hannah, and their friends visited the hospital in October.

From skincare items to clothes and jewelry, Sims covered all the essentials for the nurses at Jupiter Medical Center. A few of her sponsors also sent gifts for the nurses. Posting a photo of the NICU team, Sims captioned, “My heroes.” Sims further revealed that they wanted her to bring Crew to the hospital, and she happily obliged.
