For many fans, there were bleak chances to see Justin Thomas in the upcoming Ryder Cup. The reasons were very simple. He missed more cuts than high finishes. But to everyone’s surprise, he did make it to Zach Johnson’s pick. Now the debate has been going on about whether the captain’s pick could be beneficial for the team or not.

However, to make himself a worthy addition, Thomas has made some unexpectedly bold choices with his team recently. And as per the rumors afloat, this included dismissing his father, who served as both his swing coach and a member of his staff! Now JT himself has opened up to clear the air about it all, and as it turns out, the rumor mill may just have some truth to it!

Last month, JT secured the twelfth position for himself in the Wyndham Championship, and with it, he bid farewell to his FedEx Cup playoff chances. And now, after spending weeks away from the sport thanks to it, Thomas is gearing up for the Tour’s Fortinet Championship. Ahead of the event, he opened up and even addressed all the alleged hearsay floating around about him firing his father!

As per his recent statement, the PGA Tour star claimed that he had realized that it was now high time that he took some ownership of his decisions. He stated that at the Wyndham Championship, he was completely alone and unsupported, and when things did not go according to plan, he somewhat lost his ability to make decisions. I became dependent on them [his team], and then I just lost ownership and all accountability,” he stated boldly, explaining the recent changes to his team.

He further addressed the allegations of his father no longer being part of his team and showed that there was a little truth to them. The golf pro claimed he wanted things to be so good that he didn’t always need a coach! ”He can come out as he wants as a dad, but there’s just going to be some weeks where if things are good, I don’t necessarily need a coach,” said JT.

Just earlier this week, the PGA Tour pro’s father and now uncertain swing coach said that JT has his full support for whatever choices he makes moving forward. He wanted whatever was best for his son, and, like any other father, he will always watch out for his son’s interests.

It seems, however, that the 30-year-old’s interests currently lie with seeing things through himself, and it is in line with that that he recently made some big changes to the team that supported him during his games!

JT parted ways with another of his coaches recently

As of late, the two-time major champion has suffered a significant blow to his putting ranks. Last year in Stroke Gained putting rank, he was 56. But this year, his rank has plummeted to 159. And now, to work extra on his putting, JT made a crucial decision.

The golf pro parted ways with his putting coach, John Graham. Graham had been working with Thomas since December 2020, and as per Todd Lewis, that was no longer the case. “Thomas is now looking to find the answer to his putting woes by himself,” said the Golf Channel analyst.

Whether the split is permanent or not is not certain as of now. However, with these significant adjustments made, there is no question that the 15-time PGA Tour champion is putting in a lot of effort to get back in shape.
