There are still weeks left for the Ryder Cup but golf fans have eagerly started their discussions as to who will take home the trophy. The hype in the sporting world is at an all-time high as the age-old competition between the two teams takes center stage. And Paige Spiranac has jumped right into the conversation but she has a different rivalry of sorts to talk about.

The golfing diva unveiled her expectations for the Ryder Cup this time around in her latest podcast. Moreover, she spoke of her yearning for a matchup between Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, leaving her listeners much curious. Let’s dive right into the story.

Paige Spiranac gambles on a Phil Mickelson-Rory McIlroy clash

The golfing queen, on the recent episode of her podcast Playing a Round with Paige, revealed her list of golfers as the captain’s pick. Although she didn’t include Mickelson in the roster, the influencer had much to say about the defector and his recent controversy. Moreover, bringing McIlroy into the mix, Spiranac talked about an exciting match-up between the two golfers, of course if ‘Lefty’ does get picked.

In the netcast, Paige referred to the gambling rumors that went around the LIV golfer not too long ago. She mentioned the tussle between Rory and Mickelson as the PGA Tour Pro took a dig at the latter because of his bet on the 2012 Ryder Cup. Continuing her talk, the 30-year-old said, “I also don’t hate Phil, and there would be something really exciting about a Phil-Rory matchup.” But even so, the model ensured to point out the current situation as she conversed with Samatha Marks on her podcast.

On one hand, the LIV Golfers as a whole are not seen in a good light while on the other hand, the allegations and controversy regarding Phil’s gambling would prove to be a distraction for the US team.  “It would give the European side a lot of ammunition to want to come and want to beat them,” she said.

Although the LIV player had been loved by many in the golf community because of his philanthropic works, his addiction to gambling along with his defection caused many to be displeased with him. Public opinion changed for the worse after Lefty’s old friend Billy Walters exposed his habits through his book!

Mickelson and his gambling controversy

Known for being one of the greatest gamblers of all time, Billy talked about the details regarding the LIV Golfer’s acts of wagering in his book Gambler: Secrets from a Life at Risk. He claimed the professional had bet around $1 billion in sports. Moreover, Walters also accused Phil of betting on the Ryder Cup in 2012. A tournament he was part of.

Mickelson was also accused of approaching a stockbroker to transfer money from his account to an offshore book in an attempt to settle his debts. This caught the attention of the IRS and probed into the matter. In addition to this, the former PGA Tour Pro was also part of an insider trading case involving the author as the latter was sentenced to prison following his guilty verdict.
