The Baltusrol Lower Course in New Jersey provided vigorous action to the viewers for four days from June 22-25. While Ruoning Yin was finally crowned the winner of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the playing field consisted of some of the big names from the golf industry. One such player is this American legend who won the same trophy in 2017.

The professional did not have an ideal finish to the tournament this season. Hence, she will now look forward to the third women’s golf major that starts on July 6 — to turn her fortunes around.

The 30-year-old took to Instagram on Monday and took questions. One question regarding the ANGC and Women’s Masters particularly moved her.

Danielle Kang voices a strong opinion about Women’s Masters at ANGC

One of the most iconic courses in the history of golf has been the Augusta National Golf Club. The history and memories this field has experienced are totally unparalleled. Hence, it was not astonishing when one individual asked the golf star, Danielle Kang, about the women’s equivalent of Masters at this prestigious course.

Kang’s answer stemmed from her perspective. Hence, she mentioned, “Don’t Hate“, implying that everyone can hold a certain opinion when it comes to such honorable traditions. According to the LPGA legend, it is not necessary to hold Women’s Masters at the same venue as the Men’s Masters.

She believed that a tournament of such caliber is defined by its name. “The Masters is the Masters“, Kang added.

While the Men’s major is built on its own history and practices, the 6-time LPGA Tour winner expressed that Women’s major does not need to follow that. “We can always create our own history which we are doing right now and build on that“.

The golf star concluded that if the Women’s Masters happens at Augusta, then that is great. In the end for the golfer what mattered the most was not the venue but for women’s golf to create its own legacy.

Women’s Masters and the History of Augusta National with female membership

No doubt that Augusta National in itself is a brand name. In 2012, it did the unthinkable: the all-male club opened its doors to welcome two more members.

But, this time the membership was provided to two female golfers — Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore.

Despite breaking these big barriers, the golf course is yet to host a Women’s Masters. One of the possible reasons could be that Women’s Masters has never been conducted irrespective of the venue. The five major tournaments that women’s golf has doesn’t include Masters in it.

Another reason could be that the golf course already hosts Augusta National Women’s Amateur which falls at the same time as the Men’s Masters. That is the time when the ground is in its prime and from May to October it usually remains closed.

On one hand, the possibility of a Women’s Masters has not been officially canceled by ANGC. On the other hand, according to Golf Monthly, there appear to be no plans in the process to conduct any such professional tournament. Going back to Kang’s words, they seem to hold some value.

While Augusta National is a dream course, the first step will be to take the initiative toward a Women’s Masters no matter what is the venue.
