After the staggering move taken by Jon Rahm last December which was then followed by his Ryder Cup teammate, Tyrrell Hatton in January, the European side of golf had been hit back-to-back by the Saudi Arabia-backed league. However, despite the tinge of disappointment felt, their one teammate, Shane Lowry, had only one wish for them when they departed to LIV Golf.

The Irishman had asked them to not follow the same path as certain golfers. Ones who had parted ways with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour and then dissed the leagues once they had joined LIV Golf.

At the Barstool Sports’s Fore Play podcast, Shane Lowry was this week’s guest. Last time he spoke, Lowry made a few comments on Jon Rahm joining LIV Golf for $566 million and said that he did not understand Rahm’s rationale behind the move. This time he revealed what he felt after Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton were gone and what was his message to them.

Per the Irish golfer, Rahm had texted in their Ryder Cup group chat after signing with LIV Golf. Although some players had vocalized their feelings, Lowry said, “That’s your choice.” The only thing he warned them about was, “Just don’t go there and kind of s**t on the tours, like some people did.”

Moreover, the 6-time DP World Tour winner asked them, “Go there and go gracefully and do what you have to do.” Shane Lowry was not upset at their money move but was in a sense disappointed. He said, “I was disappointed to see them gone,” because now, “it’s kind of weird” that they will not play an event together until the Masters in April.

Lowry concluded his feelings because of the “strange time in golf” and in the end, did not have any bad blood with the recent LIV Golf defectors. While Rahm and Hatton have joined the breakaway circuit recently, there have been talks of players returning as well if the merger is reached. And although Rory McIlroy was supportive of the decision, some in the American League are opposed to it.

And Scottie Scheffler stated that they should come back but not without any sort of contribution to the Tour.”
