The game of golf has evolved quite a bit since it first began. Golfers like Paige Spiranac use the wide platform that the sport provides to do good and bring about change. Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, intends to do the same. Using her career and her name, she often speaks up about the injustices in the golf community. And despite receiving negativity and hate, she once stood firmly and continued to speak out.

Cheyenne Woods doesn’t care about the “backlash”
Cheyenne used to believe that it was best if she remained silent and did not speak out. But she quickly realised she couldn’t just stand by. Woods now uses her second name and the status she’s earned for herself to speak out against racism and inequality. She understands the negative impact of doing so as well.
She once said, in a podcast, “You’re going to get the backlash. You’re going to get the comments and the negativity.” She lashed out at those hating on her and said, “I don’t care if you like what I say or not. I truly believe that this is what’s right and it’s in my heart.” Woods often speaks out on inequality and racism and has as a result had people unfollow her.

She remained unnerved and determined. She stood her ground and said, “And if I lose, as I have, thousands of followers because I’m speaking up about what I believe is important and right in the world, I don’t care if you unfollow me. I don’t care if you don’t support me.” Cheyenne is certain she is doing the right thing, and she is ready to take it all on alone if she has to.

Being the niece of Tiger Woods helped Cheyenne with her mission
Despite earning a name for herself as a professional golfer, Cheyenne’s still called Tiger Woods’ niece. She began her professional career in 2012 and has three professional wins. And although she was also inspired by her uncle, she became interested in the game much before his first win…through her grandfather, Earl Woods.

She has done all she can to avoid her uncle’s shadow. But she also knows that his name and golf will always be used as synonyms. And Cheyenne claims that if just the legend’s last name gets more people to watch women’s golf to see how “Tiger’s niece” is playing, then she happily welcomes it.
