The former Australian golfer, Greg Norman, has publicly presented himself as a swashbuckling extrovert. But when Business Jet Traveler’s editorial director, Jennifer Leach English, visited the legendary golfer, he turned out to be soft-spoken, thoughtful—self-assured but not showy. In 2020, he was a wildly successful CEO at his Palm Beach, Florida headquarters. Today, he is the CEO of the PGA tour’s rival, LIV Golf, which is backed by Saudi Arabia. He was the highlight in the media last season and has had sweet-bitter experiences with it. In the interview with Leach, he expressed his disdain towards Media.

The Australian-born was considered a genius kid. Norman picked up the game of golf swiftly and without any formal training. The excellent skills of the great white shark of golf later landed him as the top player according to the Official World Golf Rankings for 331 weeks.

He won 20 PGA Tour events and captured two Major Championships. The business tycoon was renowned for acting independently, on and off the course. He succeeded in doing so by making the 2022 season fantastic for the LIV Golf, and the media also played a significant role in this, whether it was reporting on rumors or actual events.

Let’s find out why he was unhappy with the media and journalism.

What does Greg Norman dislike the most about media?

Talking to Leach in the 2020 interview, she asked about Norman’s views on the gossip and media. The Aussie said that he respects everyone’s right to have an opinion. However, it should not be fake news. He was entirely against rumors and speculations.

According to the Major Championship winner, someone who wants to write a story about him or anyone should call and ask for the facts. Basing everything on speculations was wrong. “I don’t mind people having an opinion, but don’t be vicious and totally lie. Or if you want to write a story, call up and ask for the facts and hear both sides of it. Don’t just go off one version you’ve heard in the bar or somebody else telling you!” said Norman.

Former POTUS Donald Trump first coined the word, ‘fake news,’ however, Norman has had fake news experiences for more than 40 years of his life. He said, “That’s what I hate about media and journalism. Trump [coined the term] “fake news,” but I’ve seen so much fake news about myself for 40 years.”

Norman was part of many controversies and rumors last season due to the Saudi-funded Tour. However, he has always come up with a correct reply. Being surrounded by media must be challenging, as any celebrity golfer would believe. Despite all that, the former golfer will keep working toward the welfare of his players.
