The LPGA Tour headquarters have been disorderly ever since Mollie Marcoux Samaan stepped down as the Commissioner of the league. The Tour saw a lot of growth under Mollie’s regime. It achieved record viewership, saw the uprise of many stars like Nelly Korda, and most recently, signed a contract extension with the CME Group. The last fact ensures that the season-ending event, the CME Group Tour Championship will continue to be the most lucrative LPGA Tour event till 2027.
But Mollie Marcoux’s leadership also saw Cognizant stepping away as the Founders Cup sponsor. The LPGA Tour stars were also left frustrated on more than one occasion. At times, the entire league faced the wrath of the community due to certain major issues. So Mollie’s exit received a lot of mixed reactions from everyone.
But that chapter is over and Liz Moore has since taken over as the interim Commissioner. Unfortunately, Moore doesn’t have the same impact, experience, or knowledge as her predecessor. And hence, the LPGA Tour has not been able to continue to move forward. The officials have been eagerly searching for Marcoux’s replacement. But they still haven’t been able to find a great match that fulfills all the requirements.

However, insiders believe that there was a great candidate who could have filled the position and been extremely successful at doing so. Dylan Dethier and Michael Bamberger joined an ensemble of co-hosts to discuss various aspects of golf on the Drop Zone – Golf Podcast. During one of the segments, Dethier was asked what the LPGA Tour board should be looking for in the new Commissioner. To that, he replied that every Commissioner who has managed the operations of the Tour has always thought that the women deserve a lot more success for the efforts they have put in so far.
He further added that the hiring committee should question the prospective candidates, “Do you have a plan to get them on the stage where they belong?” Agreeing with Dethier’s statement, Bamberger said, “You do need someone that is going to create noise”. They believe that having a commissioner who can market the LPGA Tour and the likes of Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko well will bring a lot of success. He added that “The LPGA has potential for interpersonal drama the same way any league does,” hinting that the American league can take advantage of being in the tabloids more often.
Dethier brought up the 47th POTUS to the conversation as he recollected a moment from the LPGA Tour. He remembered how incredibly Donald Trump hosted an LPGA Tour event in 2008. The ADT Championship was held at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. That’s where Dethier aligned with him a few times. He said, “This Donald Trump, he would be a great LPGA Commissioner.” To end the segment, Dethier further added, “He would have been a great salesman for the LPGA Tour.”
