Spanish professional golfer Sergio Garcia has a distinguished career record. He has competed in 10 Ryder Cups and won 16 European Tour championships. He also triumphed at the 2017 Masters. However, last year in June he played in the opening match of the LIV Golf Series without DP World Tour authorization. And now the Tour has penalized him with £100,000. The DP World Tour claimed that these actions represented “serious breaches of the Tour’s Conflicting Tournament Regulation.”

16 other players were also fined along with Garcia. This includes Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Patrick Reed, and Graeme McDowell. But according to the European Tour’s website, all of them paid their dues except Garcia. Only the Spanish golfer, Sergio Garcia, hasn’t paid his dues. And he has not “given any indication that he intends to”.

Three-time DP World Tour champion, Hend tweeted: “He [Garcia] doesn’t have to pay the fine if he decided to no longer be a member and play DP World Tour.” Weir did not like that particular tweet and replied, “Scott, you’re making zero sense.” And as a result, these two engaged in a lengthy Twitter conversation.

Eddie Pepperell, a member of the DP World Tour, also added, “Scott, what is your point?”

The governing body of golf, the DP World Tour, has threatened Sergio Garcia with “appropriate action” after the Spaniard failed to pay a £100,000 fine imposed by a sports arbitration panel within the allotted 30 days. “Sergio García has not paid his £100,000 fine, nor has he given any indication that he intends to,” said in a statement. “We will therefore take appropriate action if he continues not to respect the Sport Resolutions panel’s decision.”

The DP World Tour’s power to penalize its players for violating the Code of Behavior was upheld by Sport Resolutions, a U.K. arbitration agency, in early April. However, Garcia has yet to issue an official comment. Only time will tell how things will go between Garcia and the DP World Tour.
