In a shocking turn of events, Rickie Fowler’s 2024 golf season has come to an unexpected end. Fowler has already missed a few tournaments this season, including the 3M Open. His last appearance was at the Open Championship, where his score was poor, to say the least. The golfer struggled with a 13-over-par score and finished 71st at Royal Troon. With six missed cuts and so many below-average performances, fans thought Fowler would give everything it takes to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, only to get disappointed.

The player list for the upcoming Wyndham Championship was released, and the golfer’s name was noticeably absent. The Wyndham Championship could’ve been a turning point for Fowler, as he’d had the chance to secure a spot in the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings. but now that opportunity is also gone.

Rickie Fowler is currently in the 104th spot, with just 374 points to his name for this season. He is 5619 points behind the leader, Scottie Scheffler. In the 20 events he has played this season, Fowler has seven over the top 40 finishes. His best finish this season was T18 at the 2024 RBC Heritage. Last year too, he only won the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which helped him break his winless drought. This year too, the drought has unfortunately continued.

His overall performance in the 2024 season has been no short of below average; it’s like the player is focused on something else entirely. Well, he could be! The reason behind Fowler’s withdrawal could be personal. He and his wife, Allison Stokke, are expecting their second child. The couple shared the exciting news on Instagram in the post about their firstborn Maya, holding tiny shoes, and the caption read, “Maya with shoes ready for her baby sister…we’re excited to be a foursome later this summer!”

Fowler’s unexpected 2024 season finish angered a few fans, and they did not shy away from showing their frustration in the comment section.

Fans comment on Rickie Fowler’s latest decision

The spectators were utterly unforgivable for Fowler’s decision to sit out of the Wyndham Championship. This fan straight up said,“@RickieFowler obviously doesn’t care about making the playoffs”. And well, the statement kind of fits with Fowler’s current rank in the FedEx Cup standings. The 6-time PGA Tour winner is back in the line at 104th. Another fan commented, “Fowler gave up? He’s well outside the top 70,” referring to Fowler’s FedEx Cup standings.

Expressing similar sentiments of not wanting to play in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, a fan commented a GIF.

“He’s lame!” said one fan, taking a jab at the golfer. This fan couldn’t believe their eyes when he saw the player list for the upcoming PGA tournament and said, “Fowler just waiving the flag!!! Unreal. UNREAL.” And it is unreal considering the seriousness Fowler has shown in various tournaments. After missing the cut at the U.S. Open and the Memorial Tournament, Fowler showed great dedication during the practice at TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship.I was here all day,” said the golfer, per Yahoo Sports. He managed to score 13 under par and finish at T20, recording his second-best performance in the 2024 season.

One fan commented, Tough to be a Rickie Fowler fan this season. With the new baby coming, I wouldn’t expect him to be sharp next season either. Tough times in the Fowler golf camp”. It seems like the fans noticed the lack of focus Fowler had throughout the 2024 season. The golfer missed the cut six times this year, the latest recording at the 2024 U.S. Open and the Genesis Scottish Open. This fan was skeptical if Fowler would be seen in the 2025 season or not since he will be busy taking care of a little baby girl.
