Does having a spouse as a caddie give Paul Casey an edge in the LIV Golf Championship?

The family members caddying for their pro golfers is working like a charm in the golf world these days. While on the PGA Tour, Robert MacIntyre won his maiden title with his father on the bag; three months ago, Paul Casey was in a similar situation. The 47-year-old entered the second round of the LIV Golf Nashville as the co-leader, and who was on his bag? It was his wife of seven years, Pollyanna Woodward.

The 3-time PGA Tour winner had to replace John McLaren, a.k.a. Johnny Long Socks, with whom he has been on and off since 2021. And when McLaren is not carrying Casey’s bag, Woodward takes the duty. Casey’s wife had caddied for him at the 2023 Saudi International too, an event on the Asian Tour, and before that at a club tournament at the Whisper Rock Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he finished runner-up. At the Saudi event, Casey was 39th.

So, will he be teaming up with Woodward again? After lifting LIV Golf Chicago’s team event trophy, Casey will be hitting the Maridoe Golf Club with McLaren again for the Team Championship in Chicago’s semi-final. The two have been a good pair and have finished in the top 10s five times this season, although Casey is yet to win an event on LIV Golf. But Casey’s team, Crushers GC, will be heading to the final event as the defending champion.

Although Casey and McLaren will be playing the LIV Golf Team Championship together, what was the hilarious reason that the 47-year-old pro replaced Johnny Long Socks, and why did he go off the bag?

Paul Casey reveals why he let McLaren go for an event

Fortunately, when Paul Casey and John McLaren parted ways this time for a short period, it was not because of a health issue the caddie was encountering or because they had some mishaps in the relationship. The Crushers GC member revealed that McLaren wanted to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day in France and had booked those days off months before.

Does having a spouse as a caddie give Paul Casey an edge in the LIV Golf Championship?

Have an interesting take?

Casey happily agreed to the occasion and told LIV Golf, “I think it’s been amazing to pay respects for those commemorations.” He expressed that he was proud that his bagman went to such a prestigious commemoration, and McLaren was happy too. But there was another reason why Casey agreed for McLaren to take the week off and spend it in France. The LIV Golf pro wanted the English looper to feel a bit pressured. Casey jokingly added, “I’m obviously doing my best to make him feel a little bit under pressure, like he’s not got a monopoly on this job.”

McLaren probably felt that he did not have any monopoly being Casey’s caddie, as even with his wife on the bag, the 47-year-old finished T9 at LIV Golf Nashville. Nonetheless, the two will be hoping to win against Iron Heads GC and enter the final round as a Tier 1 team. Will the duo be successful in their plan? It remains to be seen.
