The golf world is full of amazing golfers who never fail to leave the golf world shocked with their exceptional skills. To add to that, some politicians have also tried their luck in the sport as a hobby. Former U.S. Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama are the two prime examples, and we know for sure that Trump is a good golfer, but what about Obama? Well, he is a pretty good golfer too, and we don’t say that, but some of the top golfers in the industry do!
From Jordan Spieth to Tiger Woods, everyone agrees that Obama is a decent golfer. In early 2013, Tiger Woods got a surprise call from President Obama to play golf, and naturally, Woods couldn’t say no as the President loved the sport. “He’s an avid golfer, and you know so am I. He’s a pretty good athlete, and we all know he plays a lot of hoops,” said Woods in an interview with the Associated Press on YouTube.
And as they played, Woods was surprisingly impressed by Obama’s athletic ability and golf skills. According to Woods, Obama is a good golfer despite being a left-handed player, “He’s a lefty… um, but uh to see him out there and hitting shots, and I mean, he hit it well.” The 15x major winner was impressed with the former President and praised him; “Mr. President was pretty cool; he’s just a wonderful person to be around.” Even Steph Curry complimented Obama and said, “He’s got game.”

As for Spieth, his encounter with Obama was no short of hilarious. Spieth recently played golf with Steph Curry and former President Barack Obama, and when asked what they talked about during the game on the Late Late Show, Spieth shared a lighthearted memory. He asked Obama what advice he would give a president-elect, and Obama gave a serious response about the importance of the job and its global responsibilities. However, just before hitting his putt, Obama jokingly said, “And you won’t believe what the aliens look like. They’re freaking crazy-looking!” After saying this, Obama made his putt turn to Spieth and winked at him, jokingly.

As for the golfer, he was left stunned, feeling that he wouldn’t be able to sleep for another week. Spieth also revealed that this was a competitive match, and Obama won on the last hole with an amazing putt. “My pride has been hurt,” said Spieth after losing the game to Obama. Despite all the golfers thinking that Obama is a good golfer, basketball player Michael Jordan believes otherwise.

Michael Jordan thinks Barack Obama is not a good golfer
The basketball legend Michael Jordan previously shared his thoughts on former President Obama’s golf skills. When asked to choose three people to play golf with, Jordan took a lighthearted jab at the President, saying, “I never play with Obama, but I would… no, that’s okay, I’d take him out. He’s a hack, man!” Jordan jokingly added that Obama’s golf game isn’t up to par.

However, he quickly clarified that his comment was meant in a playful and non-political manner by saying, “I’ve never said he wasn’t a great politician; I’m just saying he’s not a great golfer.” Playing golf is not the only thing that Obama likes to do; the former president also likes to shower his support for Team USA in various golf tournaments, as he did at the 2024 Solheim Cup on Friday.
