After the PGA Tour and LIV Golf merger was announced, it came as a shock to almost everyone. Even though the merger was announced, all the involved entities are still struggling to come to the same agreement. Now, the work has been done to extend the proposed merger deadline, which was originally set for December 31. The DP World Tour chief executive Keith Pelley has been ‘optimistic‘ about the entire merger ordeal, but not everyone is on board with his optimism.

One of the frustrated DP World Tour pros expressed his dissatisfaction with the PGA Tour about the entire merger news. Interestingly, this pro has played in the Saud-funded league as well but returned to the DPWT.

Recently, Pablo Larrazabal sat down on a podcast called Flushing It and discussed his real feelings about the ongoing merger. Larrazabal expressed his sheer dissatisfaction with the PGA Tour. The 40-year-old believes that the PGA Tour players are already earning much more money than the DP World Tour players.

He said, “You know, it’s 10 times more money in America; we played for two million euros, or $2 million. Here, week in and week out, they play for $20 million with no cut.” With his remarks, the former LIV golfer hinted at the new signature events that will have high purse money.

Taking a continuous dig at the signature events and the merger, the DPWT pro said, “They hate LIV.” As per his remarks, this is quite ironic since ‘they (PGAT pros) do the same as LIV without the teams.

The 9x European Tour winner didn’t stop here; he further criticized the OWGR system, arguing that even when PGA Tour players play fifteen tournaments with no cut, they get all the world ranking points. The DP World Tour golfers “got very small and lived like they didn’t have anything.” He finds it “sad” that the DP World Tour is part of the merger with the PGA Tour, since the decision, as per him, could have been more strategic.

Pablo Larrazabal shares an alternative for DPWT

The Spinarad argued that the DP World Tour should sell its Tour to the Saudis instead of forming a strategic alliance with the PGA Tour. The golfer said that he believes that the DPWT could have doubled its prize money and improved its status and competitiveness by selling, rather than being overshadowed by the PGA Tour. In his words, “We could sell out tours for the big bucks for the big money to the Saudis. And we were playing; we will be playing for 80 more millions a year, almost double the money.”

The $3 billion amalgamation is still subject to regulatory approvals and legal challenges, and it is unclear how it will affect the players’ eligibility, the world rankings, and the majors. As talks of a potential merger loom large, the golfing community awaits further developments with bated breath.
