Jordan Spieth has been having trouble with his wrist since the 2022 PGA Championship, where he faced a lot of difficulty making his putts. However, it was back in May 2023 when he injured it while playing with his son Sammy. He decided to rest and recover back then instead of opting for surgery.
This was the reason why he did not completely recover from the injury. It was last year, while reaching for a toaster at home, that he experienced escalated pain, and upon check-up, was diagnosed with ulnar nerve damage. While it might seem that the problem was recent, Spieth reveals how it dates back even further.

In the latest episode of Gravy & The Sleaze with Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz, Jordan Spieth goes into the details of his wrist injury. The official X account of Sirius XM PGA Tour Radio shared a clip from the conversation. The 3X Major winner revealed how he messed up his wrist while training back in early 2017 or late 2018. “I didn’t get it fixed maybe then, and I kind of got into some bad habits, and then as I started to swing it better a few years ago it started to kind of act up again,” he said.
However, last year, he had to withdraw from Byron Nelson after the incident with Sammy. “And it’s kind of been something this year where that kind of dislocation has happened, you know, 20-some-odd times since February [of 2024] and it started to happen more and more,” added the 31-year-old American professional. That was when he realized that this was something that needed attention and decided to get professional treatment.
He even added that ahead of the second round of the John Deere Classic on July 5, he almost quit the game. He texted his caddie and stated that it had once again happened the previous night and had not gone back in overnight. He also confessed that the issue needed fixing immediately. “I finally got it in and just said let’s just see what happens here this week, and then I can reassess after if I play through the Open or whatever. So yeah, late this year it just started to happen more and more,” he confessed.

However, Spieth has finally had a successful surgery and will not be playing anymore this year. Despite having a terrible season, dropping down to 67th in the FedEx Cup standings, Spieth continued to excel in his niche, and that, of course, did not falter despite the lingering pain.

Jordan Spieth missed the field for the BMW Championship because he could not make it into the top 50 of the standings after a disappointing performance in Memphis. He finished at T68 with Rory McIlroy. However, his driving range has been top-notch. He is currently ranked 7th on the list of total driving (98), with a 38 standing in distance and 60th ranking in accuracy.
The 31-year-old also stands in the 13th position in the Off-the-tee list with a total OTT of 31.483 in 63 measured rounds. However, he lost strokes on approach play. But after the surgery, Spieth is all set to start the 2025 season in the best form. “Focused on rest and rehab, and I look forward to returning to golf healthy and prepared for 2025,” said a confident 13X PGA Tour winner.
