Last year, during LIV Golf’s inaugural season, Dustin Johnson walked off with a cool $35 million. But this year the golf pro is yet to find his groove; instead, many other defectors have shone quite brightly in the international league. The most recent of them is DJ’s former 4Aces teammate, Talor Gooch, who left the Adelaide event with a whopping $4 million. And while others may have been happy for a former teammate’s win, the two-time major winner certainly wasn’t!

Dustin Johnson gets candid about Talor Gooch

LIV Golf headed over to Australia for the first time this week. While many fans hoped the Aussie Cam Smith would grab his first win of this season at home, that pleasure went to the American Talor Gooch. The victor played a splendid first two rounds, carding 62 on each. And despite a 73 in the third round, he took home the win.

Unfortunately, his team, the RangeGoats GC, couldn’t see the same fate as the Gooch. They fell just one stroke short and lost the team event to none other than Johnson’s team, the 4 Aces. The two-time major winner was more than thrilled about the win, especially since it was his former teammate’s team.

Post-event, during the interview, he hid neither his excitement for the win nor his displeasure for Gooch’s. “I didn’t want him to win,” he said. “I never want any other team to win than mine.” He explained that there was no animosity as such between the two, and it was just professional competition.

Last year, the 4Aces had won the Team Championship event in Miami too, and Gooch had won it with them. But when he moved to the RangeGoats, Johnson boldly told him that Maimi was his last time on the podium. Hence, the golf great was glad that he proved himself right by snatching the win from the RangeGoats’ hands on Sunday.

DJ explained that while Gooch was a crucial part of their team last year, this year his allegiances lay elsewhere, and the golf pro himself, of course, only cared about the 4 Aces. “Obviously I like Talor, and he did really well for us last year, and obviously he played great this week,” he stated in the interview. “But yeah, I’m glad we snipped him, though, for sure, just to give it to him a little bit more.”
