Golf is a game of patience that only a few can master. It calms the temperament of a person and helps them increase concentration levels. However, developing a liking for this sport in the initial phase does not come easy. Most people don’t really like the game because it’s hard initially. But once they stick it out for a slightly longer period, they start getting comfortable and enjoy the sport to the full.

Martin Kaymer, the 2014 US Open winner, experienced the same thing. He revealed some interesting insights before his $25 million LIV event later this month.

Martin Kaymer, the 2014 Players Championship winner, did not always have an inclination toward golf. In an interview with LIV Golf, he opened up about his journey toward loving the sport.

He mentioned that initially he “didn’t really like golf because it was so hard” and he found it to be an extremely tricky sport especially not meant for a child who does not have the patience to stand for half an hour to 45 minutes and get comfortable learning the basics of golf such as how to grip the golf club.

He candidly admitted that he was more inclined toward football (soccer in America) at the same time. This inclination was due to the fact that football was a more action-packed sport compared to golf.

Kaymer also mentioned that him being a German had a lot to do with this liking toward the action-filled, fast-paced sport like football and his dislike for the game as difficult as golf. However, looking back in time, he certainly doesn’t regret his decision.
