The US Open 2023 came to a satisfactory conclusion for most players. Among those who made an impact was the Irish golfer, Shane Lowry. With back-to-back events lined up on the PGA Tour this year, the pro golfer had to change his usual approach to the tournaments and that still did not hinder his performance at the ongoing Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Normally, Lowry would be in Ireland now
For a long time, Shane Lowry has built a pattern for himself. In order to deal with the stress of playing the Pro-golf circuit, he usually returns to Ireland at the end of the US Open for some much-needed revival. It is beneficial to unwind the emotional distress that comes with a major tournament with a little R&R, and Ireland being his homeland, where else would Lowry find the most solace?

Usually, his schedule involves going home to gather his equanimity and prepare for the Irish Open. However, this time his routine had a slight change of pace.
“We don’t have that this year (the Irish Open), so I did have to add another tournament in my schedule around this time,” Shane said. “I haven’t played here that much over the years because I normally go home to Ireland straightaway after the U.S. Open, so never really fit into my schedule.”
After the rescheduling of the K Club Palmer North event, the strong-willed Irishman had some time available that he wanted to use fruitfully. He chose to fill the gap in his schedule to partake in the next PGA tour event at Cromwell, Connecticut.
However, with a change in his dominant schedule, Lowry needed to change his approach to the event as well. “I didn’t really expect much today. Just go out there and try and hit some good shots and make a few birdies and see where it left me.”
In hindsight, he scored 64, making it into T5 with 5 shots under without a single bogey. “Yeah, maybe it’s a frame of mind I probably need to get myself into a little bit more,” he admitted. Irish Golfer shared his new approach in a tweet.

Clearly, his new approach and mindset are doing wonders for his performance on the course and his mental health during such a competitive event. Even though he couldn’t go home as usual, the PGA Tour golfer seems to be at ease.
Shane Lowry is admittedly happy with his performance
It is good to keep expectations low. That way, it is hard to be disappointed.
Lowry’s motivation may not have been at its best without the chance to visit his homeland for recuperation, but he handled himself with finesse. As a pro golfer, he realized that the gap in his usual schedule presented the perfect opportunity to fulfill one of his other goals.
“Yeah, the fact it’s an elevated event is one of the reasons I’m here, but also I do need some FedExCup points, as well, so hopefully can pick up some this week,” Lowry explained his decision to stay.

Without question, his decision paid good if not great dividends. He grabbed the window for the FedEx Cup, which is prime rationality for the 36-year-old golfer. A few more opportunities to win the title could go a long way to substantiate his career. Not to mention, his performance wasn’t half bad. He is in the top 10 after the first round of the Travelers Championship.
No doubt, in the next round, Shane will try to take the same level-headed approach and make an impact.
