As we already know, LIV Golf has faced enough backlash since its birth, and the harsh criticism has not stopped coming its way even after the merger which took place in June this year. One of the top critics of the Saudi-backed league is Rory McIlroy and he has shown his utmost dislike for the league whenever its mention comes up in a discussion.
Not long ago, his censure was so strong that he would retire from golf but not join the PIF-funded league. Yet again, he takes a savage dig at the LIV golfers as their patriotic European dreams dissolve for this year. Let’s dive into the story to learn more about what he has said!

The 23-year-old rookie has been selected as one of the six captain’s picks by Luke Donald. And McIlroy says that having both youth and experience on the team is a good thing. “It injects a fresh, youthful exuberance into the whole dynamic of the week which is really cool,” BBC Sports quoted him as saying.
Rory McIlroy even shed light on how LIV defectors are now not eligible for the Europe Team. “There was going to be a lot of rookies on the team with a few of those older guys making some decisions that didn’t allow them to be a part of it anymore.” He referred to LIV golfers as “older guys” who, according to him, suffered for the choice they made.
It may be noted Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Lee Westwood, and Ian Poulter moved to LIV Golf last year. Rory McIlroy calls this period “transitional time for Europe.”

Rory McIlroy displays his ruthless side to LIV golfers
After the signing of the merger earlier this year, the situation settled a bit for the American golfers who defected to LIV Golf because at least they stood some chance. But the same fate was not shared by the European LIV golfers.
Not long ago, Rory was asked in a press conference whether he was in favor of the fact that the US Team could select players (Brooks Koepka has since been chosen) from the PIF-funded league but Europe could not. To which he answered savagely. He said, “No. I don’t think it would make a difference for us,” portraying his lack of concern for the LIV players.
