The live action at The Open is stirring a lot of fan debates online. After fans bashed DeChambeau for his poor performance, it is now time for Wyndham Clark to face the furious fans, but not for the same reason. Clark has been called out on his slow play so many times before; however, it doesn’t seem like the player has learned from his past mistakes.

After Clark’s slow play at the PLAYERS Championship, where the golfer was accused of causing a delay in the game, it seems like history is repeating itself. The first round of the Open Championship saw some great players with great shots, like Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas. However, Wyndham Clark didn’t have a good start to the game.

Currently resting at T140 along with Rickie Fowler and Cameron Smith, Clark is facing some major heat online because of his slow play. According to BKT on X, Clark was gone from the greens for more than 10 minutes for some ruling. This resulted in Brooks Koepka waiting on hole eleven to take his birdie putt.

Not only that, but the golfer also made the 15-time major winner, Tiger Woods, and his group had to wait on the tee for nearly ten minutes. This made the golf fans furious, and they took to the social media platform X to express their anger.

Fans on Wyndham Clark’s slow play

Slow play is the ultimate golf buzzkill. Everyone is aware of how much slow play can affect the overall game for the pros and the fans. And some golf fans had zero patience for Clark’s sluggish pace, in the first round of the Open. They posted their feelings, calling him out for slowing down the game. And man, the backlash was full of anger.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Wyndham Clark just disrespect Tiger Woods, or is this a case of fans overreacting?

Have an interesting take?

One user said,Turn on the open to watch Xander tiger and Cantlay wait on the tee while some blue collar dudes take apart a tv stand for Wyndham Clark. sick sport.” Woods and Co. had to wait a nearly 15-minute wait on the par-4 11th tee box. The three Tour pros had to stand around while Clark received a ruling in the fairway and then had to wait for a TV tower to be lowered so he could hit a shot.

While another fan gave a solution for the problem, “I hate Wyndham Clark and the RNA 😡. They should’ve made him take a provisional and got the play going. That 15-minute delay is freaking ridiculous.” This user held the R&A accountable for this delay and suggested that Clark should’ve taken a provisional instead of making everyone wait. Don’t know what provisional is? Worry not, we’ve got you covered! According to the USGA, this rule is designed to save time and maintain a smooth pace of play in case a ball gets lost.

Think that’s all the boiling comments? Think again because this user said, “I seriously dislike Wyndham Clark at the moment. Like bruh hit the ball already. It’s not like you’re winning this week,” recalling his past performances. Clark missed the cut at the PGA Championship and finished T56 at the U.S. Open. His sole win this season has been at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM because the play was cut short to 54 holes due to inclement weather. Adding fuel to the fire this user mockingly said, Of course, it was Wyndham” recalling the past Clark has had with the slow play.

Another user said, “Wyndham fucked up Tiger just so he could be 8 over”, accusing Clark of sabotaging Woods’s game just to finish 7 over par, which is a very poor score compared to that of Shane Lowry and JT. The two are currently leading the game with a score of 5 under par.

With the furious fans not taking Clark’s side and his slow play causing delays in the game, do you think he’ll be able to perform well at the 2024 Open? Let us know in the comment section below!
