Is LIV Golf changing the game for better or worse after Hatton's big win at St. Andrews?

The 2024 season for both the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf have come to an end. Some of the professional golfers are now playing at the events at the DP World Tour, competing against each other. One such was the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews. From Jon Rahm to Tyrrell Hatton, some of the best golfers in the breakaway league competed against players like Rory McIlroy. The Championship concluded a few hours ago, and well this time it was a LIV Golfer who clinched the trophy. Hatton, despite carding a double bogey and a bogey on the back nine, compensated the Sunday round with five birdies, finishing with a 2-under 70. He defeated Nicolas Colsaerts with just one stroke. Well, this changes a lot for the LIV golf league.

NUCLR Golf took to their official X account and shared a video of the 32-year-old from the winning moment. The Presidents Cup concluded on September 29, and well, it created a ruckus, because of the new rule. According to the new qualifying criteria, all 24 players taking part in the Presidents Cup must be eligible to compete in PGA Tour-sanctioned events in the 2024 season. Well, Tyrrell Hatton’s win against the PGA Tour players might have changed the dimensions, except for the fact that they will still not be eligible for the PGA Tour events. Dan Rapaport re-shared NUCLR Golf’s post on his official X account.

“Still gets to play in Ryder Cup, still gets to play (and win) tournaments at St Andrews, still into the majors…I think initially we thought the downside of going to LIV Golf was going to be a lot starker than it has been. He’s only really missing the PGA Tour signature events,” he wrote on Hatton’s victory. Moreover, this win will also secure him a spot in the European Tour of the 2025 Ryder Cup. This is because, all the players, to be a part of the team, must play four events in a year. He had already participated in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Now his comeback will allow him to complete the four events tally, and play at the Ryder Cup.
