Bryson DeChambeau was over the moon when he defeated Rory McIlroy and clinched the US Open trophy. So much so that, on June 16, Golf Digest shared a video, where he was seen swarmed by fans. In the post-round presser of the Wednesday practice round, he was asked if he wanted to carry the US Open trophy with him to India for more fans to touch. To that, he joked and said, “I did, but customs would have had it.”
He then took up a more serious note and stated how he surely would have considered bringing it to India, but now he wants to keep it somewhere it stays said, “I want to respect (the US Open) trophy and keep it in a place where it is appreciated. But yes at some point that did cross my mind but [I was like]man, bringing the whole thing, an extra bag, and Connor gonna have to deal with that. Well, who would not keep it so close? After all, the 2024 US Open was his first Major. And let’s not forget, his favorite one too. Bryson DeChambeau also said that he hit his best shot at the 2024 US Open
Bryson DeChambeau still thinks about the winning US Open shot
Bryson DeChambeau’s incredible bunker shot on the 18th hole at Pinehurst No. 2 will forever be etched in golf’s highlight reels. The 30-year-old secured his second U.S. Open title by parring his 72nd hole on Father’s Day weekend, thanks to a trap shot that most golfers only dream of pulling off. It’s no surprise that DeChambeau often reflects on that moment—he admits he thinks about it “every day.” But the bunker shot wasn’t the only part of the victory that stood out to him.
“The bunker shot is amazing, but there’s a couple of shots I hit during that week. The back of No. 8, I hit it over the green twice, and I get up and down twice. I won the tournament because of that,” DeChambeau told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “If I don’t get that up and down, I may not win the tournament. It’s the culmination of the whole week and how things progressed that led to it being such a memorable week.”
