Is Scottie Scheffler risking his career with these dangerous moves, or is he just being fearless?

Dancing Feet! Scottie Shuffle! These are just the names that people have given to Scottie Scheffler‘s very different footwork while swinging. It can be said that he is not only dominating the greens, but his stylish footwork is also the talk of the town.

In the second round of the Tour Championship, we got to see it again. Scheffler finished Friday with a score of 21 under par and is currently leading. The 28-year-old is in the race to become the PGA Tour champion this season, overcoming the curse of missing out the last two years as the world number 1. But before that, fans have something to say about his swing.

But first, what is so different about his footwork? Well, his feet slide around quite a lot, unlike most golfers. Both feet move back behind him as he swings the club through, and also toward the target. He has not gotten injured because of it ever, but fans were worried this time.

Scheffler was already experiencing back pain during the BMW Championship but still finished the tournament. Heading into the Tour Championship, he is competing for a whopping $25 million bonus. However, fans are concerned that his unique footwork style could potentially result in a serious injury, and they don’t want one of their favorite golfers to leave the course early.

But that won’t be happening as Scheffler describes this motion as a “body release,” referring to how his body moves upward toward the sky as he swings the club through. His teacher Colin McCarthy explained more about his swing saying “He’s got long arms and an upright swing. His golf body type means he has a lot of vertical in his golf swing,” as revealed on Golf Digest. This year, Scheffler’s dancing feet garnered a lot of attention at the Genesis Invitational, and the Augusta showdown.

Scheffler and his team are sure of his dancing footwork, and the 28-year-old is still healthy and getting ready to clinch the season-long title after a stunning 6-win season, the concern isn’t leaving people’s minds.

While talking about the golfer’s ankle, this fan also took his knee into account and said, “I mean, he might be destroying his ankles, but it looks like he’s taking it pretty easy on his knees.” The way Scheffler’s ankle twisted in the video could have resulted in a sprain but he is now so used to it. However, despite the strain on his ankle, Scheffler kept his knees properly aligned, which, according to this fan, could help prevent any additional stress. A similar incident occurred with Tony Finau during the 2018 Masters Par-3 Contest when he injured his ankle while he was running and jumping toward the green. It was his debut tournament, and the golfer was concerned, but fortunately, nothing serious happened. He competed in the tournament and finished tied for 10th place. So, it is only natural for fans to be concerned.

One fan was completely shocked and commented, “I don’t understand it. How? Seemingly so unbalanced, yet so effective. Golf can have so much personality.” For a moment, Scottie Scheffler appeared unbalanced, as if he might fall; however, Scheffler’s long arms and upright swing grant him a lot of vertical which helps him to keep his body in control. Expressing similar sentiments, another added, “What an ugly thing of beauty.” This fan explained the golfer’s swing, saying, “I actually feel like this isn’t that much stress on his ankles. He throws so much power into it that he loses grip with the ground as he pushes off the turf. Then settles down weirdly onto his pivoted feet.”

Although the stance looks unusual, his flawless swing currently keeps him at the top of the leaderboard at the Tour Championship. Moreover, the 28-year-old has six Tour wins to his name this season so far, including the Masters, even with his unconventional swing style, so who’s to say it’s wrong, right?

Another fan simply appreciated his swing and said, “Scottie has some of the ugliest footwork in the game, but he definitely has more green jackets than me, so what the f–k do I know?” It is not the first time fans have been amazed like this after witnessing his swing. During the US Open last year, fans were impressed after witnessing Scottie Scheffler’s swing and shared comments like “That footwork, though!” And even with this style, he already has two major victories!
